Traffic courts in San Diego County
Your courtesy notice names the courthouse assigned to your case.
Give your school the DMV court code of the division on your ticket: 37480 Kearny Mesa, 37465 North County, 37485 South County or 37440 East County.
Citations issued to drivers under 18 are handled separately: Juvenile Court, San Diego, (858) 634-1616, DMV court code 37200.
Important
The court decides whether you are eligible for traffic school. Mirai Traffic School cannot approve or guarantee eligibility. Check your courtesy notice, or ask San Diego County Superior Court, if you are unsure.

Where a San Diego County traffic ticket goes
What the roads, the courts and the rules mean for a citation in San Diego County.
San Diego County reaches from the Pacific at Oceanside and Coronado to the desert at Borrego Springs and south to Mexico. The Census Bureau estimated 3,282,248 residents on July 1, 2025, and 18 incorporated cities share the 4,261 square miles the court serves. Interstate 5 follows the coast, Interstate 15 runs inland through Escondido and Interstate 8 heads east through El Cajon. State Routes 52, 67, 76, 78, 79 and 94 carry traffic inland.
The California Office of Traffic Safety counted 18,773 people killed or injured in San Diego County crashes in 2023, 42nd of 58 counties in a ranking where 1st is the worst. Motorcycles stand out, with 1,693 people killed or injured in motorcycle crashes, 1st in the state.
San Diego County Superior Court hears traffic in four divisions, and the one named near the bottom of your ticket has your case. Central Division traffic goes to Kearny Mesa, not the downtown Central Courthouse. North County's is in Vista, South County's in Chula Vista and East County's in El Cajon. Drivers under 18 use the same four courts for traffic infractions, while a misdemeanor charge against a juvenile goes to Juvenile Court on Meadow Lark Drive.
Tickets from the CHP's San Diego, Oceanside and El Cajon Areas reach the same four divisions as city police tickets. The appear-by date on your ticket is not a hearing date but the date by which you must act, whether or not the court's mailed reminder notice arrives.

The statewide rules
Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.
