Two court regions and six traffic courts in Riverside County
What the roads, the courts and the rules mean for a citation in Riverside County.
Riverside County reaches from Eastvale and Corona to Blythe on the Colorado River, and the Census Bureau estimates its population at 2,544,916 in 2025. Interstate 15 runs through Corona, Murrieta and Temecula, Interstate 10 crosses the county from Banning through Indio to Blythe, and State Route 111 links the Coachella Valley from Cathedral City to Coachella.
The California Office of Traffic Safety counted 15,177 people killed or injured in Riverside County crashes in 2023, 37th of 58 counties in rankings where 1st is the worst. Two categories rank worse. Motorcycle crashes killed or injured 929 people, 6th, and crashes with a drinking driver aged 21 to 34 killed or injured 1,059, 15th.
Riverside County Superior Court splits traffic into two regions, each with its own DMV court code. The Western Region, 33460, holds the Banning Justice Center, the Corona Courthouse, the Moreno Valley Courthouse and the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. The court's code list adds Hemet and Temecula, though neither city has one of its traffic courts. The Desert Region, 33450, is the Larson Justice Center in Indio and the Blythe Courthouse in the county's far east.
The county seat is the exception. The Riverside Hall of Justice on Main Street is not one of the court's six traffic court locations, so a ticket written in the city of Riverside goes to the traffic court printed on it. The California Highway Patrol covers the county from five Areas: Riverside, Temecula, San Gorgonio Pass, Indio and Blythe. A ticket from a CHP officer goes to the same Superior Court as one from a city police officer. Drivers under 18 with an infraction stay in the traffic division, with a parent or legal guardian at any mandatory appearance.

The statewide rules
Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.
