Orange County Traffic School

Orange County runs from La Habra down to San Clemente, and the Census Bureau put its population at 3,149,507 on July 1, 2025. Interstate 5 crosses its full length, Interstate 405 joins it in Irvine, and State Route 1 follows the coast from Seal Beach to Dana Point.

The California Office of Traffic Safety counted 17,809 people killed or injured in Orange County crashes in 2023. The county placed 56th of 58, where 1st is the worst. Child cyclists are the exception, with 196 bicyclists under 15 killed or injured, 2nd worst statewide.

Orange County Superior Court hears adult traffic cases at four justice centers, and its designation list, in effect since June 30, 2025, ties each of the 34 cities to one. The Central Justice Center in Santa Ana takes Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin and Villa Park. The North Justice Center in Fullerton takes Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, La Palma, Placentia and Yorba Linda. The West Justice Center in Westminster takes Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Stanton and Westminster. The Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach takes the other 13, Irvine to San Clemente.

The DMV files all four under one code, 30470, labeled for Orange County courts in Santa Ana. Completions are reported under it, but the code does not send your case to Santa Ana. The court location on your citation decides that, and a minor also goes to the justice center named there. The CHP's Westminster, Santa Ana and Capistrano Areas patrol the county, and their tickets reach the same Superior Court as tickets from city police.

If the court allows traffic school, it sets the traffic school bail and the due date, and your courtesy notice shows both. To see a judge about a ticket instead, you must first reserve a court date.
