Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Your citation and courtesy notice name the courthouse, and the code belongs to that courthouse.

Orange County works differently from most counties. Four justice centers hear traffic, but the DMV lists one code for all of them, 30470, and completions from every Orange County court are reported under it. The justice center on your citation decides where you appear, not which code you use.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For any Orange County ticket, the code is 30470, whichever justice center has your case.

A minor appears at the justice center named on the citation, and most appear on the court date shown on it. The court may resolve the ticket with a reprimand, a special project, a fine, traffic school or volunteer community service, and in serious cases it may refer the ticket to the Probation Department.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Read both sides of your citation. It carries the citation number, the violation, whether it is a misdemeanor or an infraction, the agency and officer, the date and place, the court location and your appearance date. The court may then mail a violation information notice with the bail, any proof of correction or court appearance rules, traffic school eligibility and the date due.

The notice also lists your OC Pay number, which the court accepts in place of the citation number when you reserve a court date. If no notice comes, contact the court anyway, because the court says not receiving one is no legal excuse. The court's traffic page is the place to start online, and it links the court's own case access.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your violation information notice shows whether your violation qualifies and the traffic school bail. The court's traffic school page explains each way Orange County Superior Court lets you sign up and pay, and if you are unsure whether your violation qualifies, it sends you to the court's automated information line or your nearest court. Its mailing address for traffic school is Information Payment Center, P.O. Box 6040, Newport Beach, CA 92658-6040.

Your notice comes with a list of traffic schools, and each school charges its own fee on top of what the court charges. If financial hardship means you cannot pay the full amount, you may appear in court and ask it to consider your inability to pay and reduce the traffic school fee.

Your citation

From citation to certificate

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in Orange County

What Orange County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The citation names the justice center and your appearance date. Read both sides, because the court says it is your job to contact it on or before that date.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

The clerk can grant traffic school to a licensed driver for a Vehicle Code infraction the DMV records. You are not eligible for a violation worth more than one point, within 18 months of an earlier traffic school violation, involving alcohol or drugs, more than 25 mph over the limit, in a commercial vehicle, or with an unpaid civil assessment.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Sign up and pay the traffic school bail on your notice the way the court's traffic school page describes. A classroom school may ask for your payment receipt before it admits you.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets how long you have to finish, and your notice and the court's traffic school page show it. Choose a course from the list sent with your notice or the California Traffic Safety Institute's list. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

An online course sends your certificate of completion to the court electronically. A classroom certificate is yours to send, and the court says it must have it by the due date.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Orange County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

You can give it instead of your citation number when you reserve a court date. It is printed on your courtesy notice.

Reserve a court date first. The court says you must reserve one to appear before a judicial officer on a traffic citation at any Orange County court. Book online or in person with your citation or OC Pay number and your license number, plate number or date of birth.

If you had insurance on the citation date but not with you, it is a correctable violation, and law enforcement cannot sign it off. The proof must name the insurance company, give the policy number and coverage dates that include the citation date, and list the vehicle. The court does not accept billing statements.

Yes. The court says some license violations, such as Vehicle Code sections 12500 and 14601, may require a mandatory court appearance. Follow your violation information notice, or contact the court before the date on your citation.

Yes, if you were driving a noncommercial vehicle and meet the other rules. The conviction is not masked on your record, but no point is added.

Call (657) 622-8459, the number the court's justice center pages give for traffic, or go to the justice center named on your citation.

Interpreters and language help

The court provides interpreters free of charge in all criminal, traffic and juvenile cases. For a hearing, ask when you appear or contact the courtroom ahead of time. At the clerk's office or self-help services, tell the staff when you arrive. Over 65 staff interpreters work across 7 justice centers, and with outside interpreters the court covers over 50 languages. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
