Important

The court decides whether you are eligible for traffic school. Mirai Traffic School cannot approve or guarantee eligibility. Check your courtesy notice, or ask Ventura County Superior Court, if you are unsure.

Three courthouses and one court code for Ventura County tickets

What the roads, the courts and the rules mean for a citation in Ventura County.

Ventura County runs from the beaches at Oxnard up the Santa Clara River valley to Fillmore and east to Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, home to 830,851 people on July 1, 2025, by the Census estimate. The Office of Traffic Safety counted 5,130 people killed or injured in the county's crashes in 2023, 25th of 58 counties, where 1st is the worst. Cyclists fare worse. Crashes killed or injured 247 of them, 6th in the state, and 43 were under 15, 4th.

The Highway Patrol's Ventura and Moorpark Areas both patrol the county, so a CHP ticket and a city police ticket land in the same Superior Court. Either way, the court mails a reminder notice to the address on your ticket with your case balance, your options and your due date. The date printed on the ticket is a due date, not a court date.

Adult traffic cases go to the Hall of Justice at 800 South Victoria Avenue in Ventura or the East County Courthouse on Alamo Street in Simi Valley. The Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard hears court trials on west county tickets. The court uses one DMV code, 56100, for every adult citation, and it warns that a completion sent without that code will not reach your case. Every juvenile traffic ticket needs a court appearance, and since August 31, 2026, Administrative Order 26.13 has required the minor and at least one parent or legal guardian to appear in person.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask most about a Ventura County citation.

The statewide rules

Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.

Start with your reminder notice, which says whether you are eligible. Pay the court the fine and its nonrefundable traffic school fees before you enroll with any school, with proof of any corrected violation.

The court collects the fine for your violation plus its traffic school fees, and your reminder notice shows the balance. Mirai Traffic School charges $24.99 for the course and final exam, paid to us. If paying the court is a hardship, ask it to consider your ability to pay, and it may reduce what you owe.

The court sets your completion date and gives it to you when it takes your traffic school payment. Clerks in the Criminal/Traffic Department at any Ventura County courthouse can grant an extension. For more time than a clerk can give, you appear in court and ask the judge or commissioner.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School. You are not eligible if you attended for a violation committed within 18 months of this one, or if you held a commercial license and drove a commercial vehicle when cited. The court also cites a wider bar on Class A, B and commercial C licenses, so ask the clerk first.

The court links to the DMV's list of licensed schools, and Mirai Traffic School holds DMV license E0756. Give 56100 when you sign up. The school notifies the court when you pass, and Mirai Traffic School also reports your completion to the DMV. Search your citation number on the court's case inquiry page, and the case status reads TVS Conviction once the record arrives.

Mirai Traffic School teaches in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian. The court provides qualified interpreters in traffic proceedings, and its Spanish page says Spanish interpreters at traffic infraction hearings cost nothing.
