Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. In Ventura County the code belongs to the court as a whole, not to one building.

Ventura County Superior Court tells schools to use 56100 for every Ventura Superior Court citation. That holds for tickets handled at the Hall of Justice in Ventura and at the East County Courthouse in Simi Valley, which has no code of its own. The court warns that a completion sent without 56100 will not reach your case. Juvenile traffic cases at the Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard carry code 56200.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For an adult ticket anywhere in Ventura County, that code is 56100.

The Juvenile Justice Center at 4353 E. Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard hears adult and juvenile traffic trials, so a trial on a west county ticket takes place there.

Every juvenile traffic citation needs a court appearance, and the minor must come with a parent or legal guardian on or before the date on the citation. The Juvenile Justice Center clerk at (805) 289-8820 answers questions about a minor's ticket and sets a hearing in person when the minor brings photo identification and a Request for Hearing form.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your citation carries its citation number, and the reminder notice the court mails to the address on the ticket adds your case balance, your options and your due date. The date on the ticket is a due date, not a court date, and a traffic citation never goes on the court's calendar by itself.

The court's traffic case search finds a ticket by citation number. It no longer searches by date of birth or driver's license number. The same search shows whether the court has received your citation yet, and the court's traffic school page links to it.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your reminder notice says whether you are eligible for traffic school, and the court's traffic school page explains the steps. The court adds that eligibility is still your responsibility, so check the rules below before you pay.

Pay the fine and the court's nonrefundable traffic school fees before you enroll with any school. If your ticket has a correctable violation, the court must receive the proof of correction with that payment before it grants traffic school. When the court takes the payment, it gives you the date by which you must finish.

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in Ventura County

What Ventura County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The citation names the court and a due date. The court then mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation, and the notice says whether you are eligible for traffic school.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

You may attend if you have not attended for another violation committed within 18 months of this one, counted from the violation date, not the class date. A driver who held a commercial license and drove a commercial vehicle when cited cannot attend.

  3. 3

    You pay the court

Pay the fine and the nonrefundable traffic school fees by the due date on your notice, with any proof of correction. The court grants traffic school only once it has all of them.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets the date by which you must finish and gives it to you when you pay. Give the school code 56100. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99, and every school charges its own enrollment fee on top of what the court collects.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

The school notifies the court when you pass, and your case status then shows the traffic school conviction. The court holds that conviction confidential, so it does not show on your driving record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Ventura County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Contact the court on or before the date and time written at the top of your citation. You can also check the court's case search to see whether it has received your citation yet.

The one your reminder notice names, either the Hall of Justice in Ventura or the East County Courthouse in Simi Valley. A court trial on a west county ticket is held at the Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard, and on an east county ticket at the East County Courthouse.

Book an arraignment on or before your due date by calling (805) 289-8545 or at the walk-up window. You must appear if your reminder notice says a mandatory appearance is required or if you want to contest the citation.

Yes. File form TR-205 for a trial by written declaration with the total bail and your written statement, so the clerk's office has them by your due date. If you are eligible and want traffic school should you be found guilty, include the traffic school fee with the bail.

A law enforcement officer signs the back of the citation for each corrected violation. An officer cannot sign off an insurance violation, so the proof of insurance goes to the court itself. A smog check station licensed by the Bureau of Automotive Repair certifies pollution control repairs, and a DMV clerk may certify registration and license violations. Send every proof with your payment.

Ask the court to consider your ability to pay, either with its online Ability to Pay tool or on forms TR-320 and TR-321. If a financial hardship keeps you from paying for your household's basic needs and you qualify, the court may reduce what you owe.

Yes. File the Notice of Appeal with the appeals clerk at the Ventura courthouse. The court charges no fee to appeal a traffic case, and its traffic page gives the deadline.

Interpreters and language help

Ventura County Superior Court lists traffic among the proceedings where it provides qualified court interpreters. Its Spanish section says it assigns certified Spanish interpreters at no cost in traffic infraction hearings, and that most of its administrative offices have Spanish-speaking staff. Its Request for Interpreter form comes in Farsi, Korean, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish and Tagalog. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
