Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. The court says the bottom of each citation names the court facility that handles it, and the code belongs to that facility.

Kern County Superior Court hears traffic at six courthouses, each with its own code: 15420 for the Metropolitan Traffic Division in Bakersfield, 15430 for Delano, 15445 for Shafter, 15410 for Lamont, 15460 for Mojave and 15470 for Ridgecrest. A ticket written in the Metropolitan area goes to Arrow Street. A ticket written anywhere else goes to the branch your courtesy notice lists.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. Pick the courthouse printed at the bottom of your citation.

Does not hear traffic

Metropolitan Division1415 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301Criminal felony and misdemeanor cases and appeals, with Bakersfield traffic sent to Arrow Street

The Metropolitan Division courthouse at 1415 Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield holds the court's criminal felony, criminal misdemeanor and appeals offices, and Bakersfield traffic goes to Arrow Street instead. The Taft courthouse has been closed since 2022, and the court moved the cases set there to Lamont.

The Traffic Division at 3131 Arrow Street hears Metropolitan juvenile traffic infractions. The juvenile calendar has limited space, so arrange a date in person, with a parent or legal guardian, as soon as the courtesy notice arrives and no later than its due date. A juvenile cited for a moving violation must appear in court, and juvenile traffic misdemeanors go to the Juvenile Court at 2100 College Avenue.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your citation carries the citation number, and its bottom line names the court facility that handles it. The courtesy notice that follows shows your fine or, when you must appear, your court date, and it marks a mandatory appearance. If the notice never comes, appear on or before the date on your citation.

The court's online case search is for registered users, so drivers ask the court directly. Call the traffic courthouse on your citation, or write through the court's Email Traffic Court form, which asks you to pick Bakersfield or one of the branches.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your courtesy notice shows the bail amount, and the court's traffic school page explains how to ask. Pay that bail together with the court's traffic school administrative fee, both payable to Kern County Superior Court, in person or by mail. The court then gives you instructions, a list of schools in your area and the date to finish by, and it mails them when you asked by mail.

Pay before you enroll. The court does not accept a completion certificate from a course taken before the bail and fee were paid.

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in Kern County

What Kern County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The bottom of the citation names the court facility. A courtesy notice follows with your fine and whether you must appear.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Kern asks for a valid license, no traffic school on a citation issued within 18 months of this one, speed no more than 25 mph over the limit, no mandatory appearance and a due date that has not passed. A commercial license holder cited in a non-commercial vehicle may attend, and the conviction stays visible but carries no point.

  3. 3

    You pay the court

Pay the bail on your courtesy notice and the court's traffic school fee before you enroll, in person or by mail.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets the date to finish and sends it with your instructions. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756, costs $24.99, and appears on the free school list from the California Traffic and Safety Institute at (661) 940-1907.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

The school sends proof of completion straight to the court, and the court must receive it by the due date. The confidential conviction then masks the violation from your public record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Kern County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The facility named on the bottom line of your citation. Tickets written in the Metropolitan area go to 3131 Arrow Street in Bakersfield, and the branches in Delano, Shafter, Lamont, Mojave and Ridgecrest each have their own traffic office and court code.

The court may hold a trial in your absence under Vehicle Code 40903 and add an extra fee. If you cannot afford the fine, you can ask for a reduction at any time while it remains unpaid.

Fix the item and have an authorized representative sign the citation. The court accepts a station licensed to inspect for that violation, the DMV for registration, or a police or California Highway Patrol agency. Send the signed citation to the court with its fee for each correctable offense.

If you were insured on the citation date, show that proof to the clerk of the court named on your citation, or mail it, with the court's processing fee. If you bought the insurance after the citation date, you must appear in court with the proof. A citation for no proof of insurance at an accident scene always needs a court appearance.

Yes. Show proof that you cannot afford it and ask the court to consider your ability to pay, through its online tool or on form TR-320. You must plead guilty or no contest before the court gives an answer, and the online tool cannot be used to sign up for traffic school.

The court's Revenue Recovery Division at 5555 California Avenue, Suite 100, in Bakersfield, at (661) 610-7500. A new case that is not delinquent stays with Metro Traffic Financial Services at 3131 Arrow Street, at (661) 610-7000.

The Bakersfield Police Department issues these to the registered owner. Follow the instructions on the notice to name the driver, or call the department at (661) 326-3882.

Kern County Superior Court provides an interpreter free of charge in traffic cases. File the Interpreter Request Form in person at the clerk's office before the hearing, as early as you can. For Spanish, you can also ask for an interpreter from court staff at the hearing itself. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
