Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Your citation and Reminder Notice name the court, and the code belongs to it.

Inyo County Superior Court hears traffic in two courthouses, one in Bishop and one in Independence. The DMV list gives the court one traffic code, 14660, filed under Bishop. Independence has no code of its own on that list, so if your notice names Independence, the Traffic Division at (760) 872-3038 can confirm the code your case carries.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. Choose the court your notice names, not the courthouse nearest your home.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your citation carries the due date at the bottom. After the court enters the ticket in its system, it mails a Bail Reminder Notice to the address on the citation. The notice shows the bail, the due date, whether you are eligible for traffic school, how to clear a fix-it violation, where and when to appear if you want to, and how to contest the ticket.

The appearance date at the top of the citation applies only to a misdemeanor or felony, or if you want to appear for arraignment. If your notice has not come, call the Traffic Division at (760) 872-3038 or email inyo.traffic@inyocourt.ca.gov. Online, the court's traffic page links its own payment and ability to pay pages.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your Reminder Notice says whether you are eligible, and it lists the amount to pay: the bail plus the court's administrative fee for traffic school. Pay that amount by the due date, in one of the ways the notice and the court's traffic page describe. Payments go to Inyo Superior Court, and the traffic page gives the court's mailing address as 168 North Edwards Street, P.O. Box 518, Independence, CA 93526.

The clerk's office may give one extension to finish traffic school if you ask before the original traffic school due date.

From citation to certificate in Inyo County

What Inyo County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The citation names the court and puts the due date at the bottom. The court then mails a Bail Reminder Notice to the address on it, but the due date holds whether or not the notice arrives.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Inyo asks for a valid license issued in the U.S., no traffic school for a ticket issued within 18 months of this one, and no alcohol or drug charge. It rules out speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, a commercial vehicle, a misdemeanor, a mandatory appearance, and equipment or non-moving violations.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Pay the bail plus the court's administrative fee by the due date, as your Reminder Notice lists them. The notice and the court's traffic page show the amount and the ways to pay.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets the date to finish, and your notice shows it, or the court gives it to you if you appear. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756, costs $24.99, and saves your place whenever you stop.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

The school reports your completion to the court electronically. The court then reports the ticket to the DMV as a confidential conviction, and one conviction in any 18 months, counted violation date to violation date, stays off your driving record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Inyo County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Call the Traffic Division at (760) 872-3038 or email inyo.traffic@inyocourt.ca.gov. The court says not receiving the notice is no legal excuse, so act by the due date at the bottom of your citation.

The one your citation and Reminder Notice name. Bishop and Independence are both traffic courts with a clerk's office, and you may ask either clerk's office to set your case for arraignment and court trial. Your completion goes to the court under code 14660.

Yes. Inyo lets you ask for a trial by written declaration on forms TR-205 and TR-200, and you post the full bail before the process begins. In your declaration you may ask the court to consider authorizing traffic school. If you are found not guilty, the court returns the bail.

Appear for arraignment as your citation instructs, or ask either clerk's office in person by the due date. Neither needs bail first. A written request by mail can set arraignment and trial for the same date, and it needs the full bail.

Ask the court to consider your ability to pay, through its online request tool or on form TR-105. You must plead guilty or no contest before the court can give you an answer. The court says not to use that tool to ask for traffic school.

The court may treat it as your choice of a trial by written declaration under Vehicle Code section 40903, and the bail may go up. It may also add a late charge and a civil assessment and refer the case to collections.

Correct the item, then have an authorized representative sign the citation or Bail Reminder Notice: a California law enforcement agency, the DMV for license and registration items, or a station licensed to inspect and certify for that violation. Send the signed citation to the court by the due date with the proof of correction fee your notice shows.

Interpreters and language help

Inyo County Superior Court asks you to tell the court clerk if you need an interpreter, when you request your court trial or when you appear for arraignment. The court also publishes its traffic page in Spanish. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
