Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Your citation and courtesy notice name the courthouse, and the code belongs to that courthouse.

Fresno County Superior Court hears all traffic at the M Street Courthouse at 2317 Tuolumne Street in Fresno, and the DMV lists one code for it, 10440. The Court ACCESS sites in Orange Cove, Mendota and Coalinga hear cases from the same court, so a ticket heard there still uses 10440.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For a Fresno County ticket, that is the M Street Courthouse and 10440.

Your case

Finding your case

The due date is at the bottom of your citation and on your reminder notice, and the notice shows the bail. By that date you must pay the bail or appear in court. The court's traffic page is the place to start online, and the Traffic Department's call center at (559) 457-1700 answers case questions.

The court warns that if you do nothing by the due date, you may be treated as having chosen a trial by written declaration under Vehicle Code section 40903. If a civil assessment is added, file form TR-25 to ask the court to vacate it.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your courtesy notice lists the bail and the court's administrative fee for traffic school. The court's traffic page explains how Fresno County Superior Court takes a request, in person at the M Street Courthouse or by mail. Its mailing address for traffic requests is Fresno Superior Court, ATTN: Traffic Division, 1100 Van Ness Avenue, Fresno, CA 93724.

Once the court has your request and payment, it gives you a list of schools in your area. Each school charges its own fee on top of the court's administrative fee.

From citation to certificate in Fresno County

What Fresno County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

A courtesy notice follows with the bail. The due date is at the bottom of the citation and on the notice.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

You need a valid license and no traffic school on a citation issued within 18 months of this one. The clerk cannot grant it for a misdemeanor, a violation worth more than one point, alcohol or drugs, speed over 100 mph, an unpaid civil assessment, or a commercial vehicle driven on a commercial license.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Ask the court the way its traffic page describes, and pay the bail plus the administrative fee your courtesy notice lists.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

Once the court has your payment and request, it gives you a list of schools. The court sets how long you have to finish, and its traffic page shows it. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

The school reports your completion to the court electronically, and the court reports the ticket to the DMV as a confidential conviction. If you need more time, ask the clerk before the traffic school due date, because the court gives only one extension.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Fresno County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The court may treat you as having chosen a trial by written declaration, and a civil assessment can be added. Call (559) 457-1700 or file form TR-25 to ask the court to vacate the assessment.

Yes, by trial by written declaration on form TR-205, filed with the bail on your notice by the due date. You and the officer each submit statements, and the decision comes by mail. If you disagree, you can ask for a new trial in court on form TR-220.

Yes. You have the right to an arraignment without posting bail, and at it you can plead not guilty and ask for a court trial on another day. A written not guilty plea that sets the trial for you needs the bail.

Have an officer or an authorized inspection or installation station sign your copy after the repair, then return it with the court's fee for each correctable violation. A DMV office or any court clerk can certify license and registration items.

For some offenses charged as infractions, Penal Code sections 17 and 19.8 let you ask to have the charge tried with a jury as a misdemeanor. The court warns that a misdemeanor sentence can include jail, so talk to an attorney first.

No. A judicial officer hears a traffic infraction case without a jury, and you can hire an attorney or appear on your own. The court cannot appoint an attorney for an infraction.

Send the court a letter asking for a fine reduction or community service, and you may include form TR-320, Can't Afford to Pay Fine. The court may ask for financial documents to support the request.

Interpreters and language help

The court provides interpreters for all mandatory case types, and its request form comes in English and Spanish. Call the Interpreter Coordinator at (559) 457-4910, and tell the clerk as early as possible before a court trial. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
