Court code

Your DMV court code

The DMV numbers every California traffic court with a five-digit code, and the court matches your completion to your case by that code.

Merced County Superior Court files citations from law enforcement agencies across the county and hears traffic at two divisions, the Traffic Division in Merced and the Los Banos Division. Both use DMV code 24400, so your completion carries the same code whichever division has your case.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For any Merced County ticket, that is Merced County Superior Court and 24400.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

The officer writes your due date under your signature on the citation, and the bottom of the citation names the division to contact. The court then mails a Notice to Appear, a reminder to appear or pay that also lists your options.

The citation or case number on those papers is the one to write on everything you send the court. For anything else, the court's traffic page links its records search.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your Notice to Appear lists how to ask Merced County Superior Court for traffic school, and the court's traffic page explains it. By mail, select option 4 on the courtesy notice or write to the court, and send the full bail on your notice plus the court's traffic school fee, payable to Merced Superior Court, to the address at the top right of the notice.

Once the court authorizes the request, it gives you a list of schools and a completion due date, and the school you choose charges its own fee. If a correctable violation is on the same ticket, clear it as the court's traffic page explains. Questions go to the traffic school representative for your division.

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in Merced County

What Merced County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The officer writes your due date under your signature, and the bottom of the citation names your division. A Notice to Appear follows by mail with your options.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Merced asks for a moving violation, no traffic school in the past 18 months, no more than 3 infractions and no misdemeanor on your driving record, and a speed no more than 25 mph over the limit. A commercial license holder may ask when driving a non-commercial vehicle, and a driver in a commercial vehicle cannot attend.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Before the due date, select option 4 or write to the court, and pay the full bail and the court's traffic school fee.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets the completion due date when it authorizes your request. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99, paid to the school apart from the court's fee.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

Finish by the due date the court gave you. One conviction in any 18-month period is then held confidential and stays off your driving record. For a commercial license holder the conviction stays visible, but it carries no point.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Merced County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Contact the court anyway. Merced County Superior Court says not receiving the notice is no legal excuse for missing the date at the bottom of your citation. Call the Traffic Division at (209) 725-4107 or Los Banos at (209) 725-4124. A missed date can bring added penalties, including a civil assessment.

Correct the problem, then have a law enforcement officer complete the Certificate of Correction on the back of the citation. For expired registration, a DMV agent may sign instead. For no proof of insurance, send proof that you were insured on the day of the citation. Submit it with the state fee under Vehicle Code 40611 by the due date. If you had no insurance that day, speak with a clerk or pay the bail.

Not at first. The California Highway Patrol issues the Notice to Correct, form CHP 281, and you send the proof of correction to the CHP directly, within the time the notice gives. If you do not, the CHP refers the citation to the court.

Yes, by trial by written declaration, for Vehicle Code infractions with no accident and no mandatory appearance. Post the full bail and send form TR-205 or a signed request by the due date, marking option 3 on your courtesy notice. The court subpoenas a written report from the officer, and the ruling comes by mail.

Yes, but it takes two appearances. First appear for arraignment in Merced or Los Banos by your due date and plead not guilty, and the court sets a trial date. With bail posted instead, a signed request lets you have the arraignment and trial in one hearing, and the court mails you the date.

The court names speeding over 100 mph and a driver under 21 with a blood alcohol content of .05 or more as examples. Your notice says MANDATORY when it applies, and then you must appear before a judge before you can pay. You may appear on or before the date at either court location.

The collection agency named on your notice. Merced Court Collections answers at (209) 725-4220. You may petition the court to reduce or vacate a civil assessment, or ask for an ability-to-pay review on form TR-320, mailed to P.O. Box 3769, Merced, CA 95344.
