Court code

Your DMV court code

A DMV court code is the five-digit number that sends your completion to the right court. The court named on your citation and courtesy notice decides which code you use, not the school and not the town you live in.

Mariposa County Superior Court has one adult traffic code, 22650, for the Historic Courthouse in the town of Mariposa. The court lists no other courthouse, so every adult ticket it handles carries that code. The Juvenile Division, in the same building, uses code 22200.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For an adult ticket from this court, enter 22650.

Every matter the court hears, adult traffic included

Pin 1 on the map, at 5088 Bullion Street in Mariposa. The court says all of its matters are held here, so traffic shares the building with every other case type the court hears. The county formed in 1850 and built this courthouse four years later, and the court says it has held proceedings in it ever since, the longest run of any courthouse west of the Rocky Mountains. The traffic clerk answers at (209) 966-2005 and at traffic.clerk@mariposacourt.org. The main entrance faces Bullion Street, the accessible entrance is at the rear facing Jones Street, and parking on every side of the building is free.

    Court's page for this building

The court lists one location, the Historic Courthouse, and holds all of its matters there, so there is no second building to check.

The Juvenile Division sits in the same Historic Courthouse at (209) 966-2005, under code 22200. The court keeps juvenile cases confidential, gives no information about them by phone, and asks a party to show identification before it shares anything.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your citation carries the citation number and the date the court expects you to act by, and the reminder notice the court sends repeats that date. Keep both papers. The court's case information terms say its online record is not the official record of the court, and they ask you to check anything you read there against your court paperwork.

The court's case information system shows only cases the public may view, and it holds limited data on cases filed before 1999. A party to a case that is not public has to view it at the courthouse. For a certified copy of a record, ask the court in person or in writing. The court's traffic page is the place to start online, and its menu links the case information page.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your courtesy notice lists how Mariposa County Superior Court lets you ask for traffic school and what the court charges. The court's traffic page does not repeat those steps, so the notice is your guide, and the traffic clerk answers by phone or email when something on it is unclear. Letters to the court go to Mariposa County Superior Court, PO Box 28, Mariposa, CA 95338.

Do not ask through the court's online ability to pay tool. The court says that tool is not for a driver who wants to attend traffic school, contest the citation, or clear a fix-it item with proof of correction.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Mariposa County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The Historic Courthouse at 5088 Bullion Street. The court holds all of its matters there, so an adult traffic case, a juvenile case and a criminal case go to the same building. Adult traffic uses DMV code 22650.

No. The court lists attending traffic school among the things that tool is not for. Follow your courtesy notice to ask for traffic school, and use the tool only to ask for a lower amount.

Ask Mariposa County Superior Court to lower the amount based on your ability to pay, at any time while the fine is unpaid. You must show proof that you lack the means to pay, and the court answers only after you plead guilty or no contest. The court's online tool or form TR-320 starts the request. Misdemeanor and felony fines cannot be reduced this way.

The court may add a fee if you do not act by the date on your citation and reminder notice. An unpaid case can move to the court's Collections Division, which handles overdue traffic fines and answers at (209) 966-5711.

The Franchise Tax Board. The court says a driver whose case has gone to the FTB must make payment arrangements with the FTB and must not pay the court.

The court does not set them. The California legislature, counties and cities set fines, fees and assessments, and the court processes the case and passes the money on to state, county and city agencies.

Everyone passes a weapons screen and has bags x-rayed, and anyone who leaves and comes back goes through screening again. Shorts, tank tops, crop tops and bare feet are not allowed, and phones must be off before you enter a courtroom. Bring photo identification. Inside, check the calendar on the wall for your name, and ask the clerk's office if it is not there.

Interpreters and language help

Mariposa County Superior Court assigns qualified interpreters at no cost in traffic cases. Ask the courtroom staff at your hearing or the clerk's office before it. The court also provides telephone interpreters through an outside provider, and sign language interpreters are free for a party or witness at a hearing. The interpreter repeats everything said in court and cannot give legal advice. The court's language page links translated court forms in Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
