Court code

Your DMV court code

A DMV court code is the five-digit number that ties your completion to your case. Modoc County Superior Court lists one location, the Robert A. Barclay Justice Center in Alturas, and its traffic code is 25100. An adult traffic ticket anywhere in the county uses that code.

The court's Traffic Division hears Vehicle Code violations and local ordinance violations. A ticket from the California Highway Patrol, the Modoc County Sheriff or the Alturas Police Department lands in the same building under the same code.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For a Modoc County ticket, pick Modoc County Superior Court and 25100.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

The court mails a courtesy notice to the address on your ticket. The notice states the bail, whether you must appear, and the date by which you must deal with the ticket. For a mechanical violation, it also shows a reduced amount when fixing the problem lowers what you owe.

If the notice has not arrived as your appearance date nears, call the traffic division at (530) 233-6516, extension 1213.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your courtesy notice is where Modoc County Superior Court shows what traffic school takes on your ticket, and the court's traffic page explains the rest. That page lists no separate traffic school steps, so if the notice leaves a question open, call the traffic division at extension 1213 before your appearance date.

The court takes filings at the Clerk's Office, 205 South East Street, Alturas, CA 96101, in person or by mail.

From citation to certificate in Modoc County

What Modoc County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The ticket shows your appearance date at the bottom. A misdemeanor, or a ticket marked mandatory appearance, means you must appear at the Superior Court. Otherwise, wait for the courtesy notice the court mails to the address on the ticket.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Modoc's pages print no traffic school eligibility list of their own, so the courtesy notice is where you see whether traffic school is open to you. If it does not say, ask the traffic division.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Follow the courtesy notice to ask Modoc County Superior Court for traffic school, and pay what the court charges by the date the notice shows. The court sets both the amount and the date.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets how long you have to finish, and your notice or the traffic division gives you the date. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756, costs $24.99, and keeps your place each time you stop.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

After you pass, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically under code 25100, and the court matches it to your case. If you are unsure it arrived before your date, call the traffic division.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Modoc County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The court gives two ways by mail. You can schedule a court trial date, or ask for a trial by declaration. For the declaration, call the court at (530) 233-6516, extension 1213, and send the total bail before the appearance date. The clerk mails you the declaration forms, you do not appear, and the court holds the bail in a trust account until it decides the case.

Call the court at (530) 233-6516, extension 1213, before the appearance date at the bottom of your ticket. The court's criminal page says a person charged with an infraction has no right to a jury trial or to a lawyer appointed by the court.

A law enforcement officer signs off equipment violations on your copy of the citation. A clerk at the court can certify an insurance violation, and license or registration violations can go to a DMV office or to the court. Present the proof with the correction fee, by mail or in person, by the due date.

Ask the court to reduce what you owe based on your ability to pay, through the online request tool its traffic page links, or on form TR-320 filed at the Clerk's Office. You must show proof that you lack the means to pay, and the court gives its answer only after you plead guilty or no contest. You may also ask to do community service in place of the fine, or for more time. A misdemeanor cannot use the online tool, so it goes on the form.

The court can issue a warrant for your arrest, tell the DMV to hold or refuse to renew your license, impose a civil assessment, and send the case to a private collection agency. On a late fine, the court sends notices before it adds a further fee, so act as soon as one arrives.

No. Modoc County Superior Court says it does not send text messages about payments. Treat such a text as a scam, and check your case with the court at (530) 233-6516.

The court's self-help page lists the local ones: the California Highway Patrol at (530) 233-2919, the Modoc County Sheriff at (530) 233-4416 and the Alturas Police Department at (530) 233-2011. Their traffic tickets all go to the Traffic Division at the Justice Center.

Interpreters and language help

The court's pages publish no interpreter request process for traffic cases, so ask the clerk at (530) 233-6516 or Clerk@modoc.courts.ca.gov well before your date. The court's home page links the statewide self-help center in English and Spanish, and you ask for a disability accommodation on Form MC-410. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
