Court code
Your DMV court code
A California traffic court reports your traffic school completion to the DMV under a five-digit court code, which ties the completion to your case. Your citation and courtesy notice name the courthouse, and the code belongs to that courthouse.
Shasta County Superior Court hears all traffic in one building, the Main Courthouse at 1515 Court Street in Redding, and code 45670 is its code. The court's Traffic Unit handles every adult ticket in the county there. Juvenile infractions go to the same Traffic Unit, and the DMV list gives them no separate code.
Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For a Shasta County ticket the answer is the Main Courthouse and 45670.

Traffic violations and other infractions under state law and county ordinances, through the Traffic Unit of the Criminal Division
Pin 1 on the map, at 1515 Court Street in Redding. The Traffic Unit belongs to the court's Criminal Division and handles traffic violations and other minor offenses under state law and county ordinances, such as speeding, cell phone use, expired registration and dog licenses. The court treats them as infractions, which carry fines and no jail time. The unit answers at (530) 245-6789, and traffic school questions go to (530) 245-6782. Code 45670 belongs to this building.

The Traffic Unit clerk's office processes juvenile infraction cases. Juvenile case information is confidential, so the automated phone system does not give it out. To pay a juvenile ticket, a parent or legal guardian completes and signs the courtesy notice. For anything else about a juvenile case, speak with a clerk at (530) 245-6789.
Your case
Find your case, then ask for traffic school
Finding your case
Your citation carries the citation number. The agency that wrote the ticket sends it to the court first, and only then does the court mail a courtesy notice to the address on the citation, so the notice comes some time after the ticket. The notice shows the due date, the bail or fine, any proof of correction or mandatory appearance, traffic school information, and trial information.
Once the notice arrives, meet the due date on it. You do not need to appear on the date at the bottom of the citation. If no notice has come by that date, contact the court anyway. The Traffic Unit answers case questions at (530) 245-6789, and the court's traffic page is the place to start online.
How to ask for traffic school
Your courtesy notice tells you whether traffic school is open on your ticket, and the court's traffic page explains how to ask. Shasta County Superior Court signs drivers up by mail or in person at the Traffic Unit. Pay the amount due for traffic school by the due date on the notice. The court then sends information about schools and your completion date by mail or email.
If you are thinking about traffic school, ask for it instead of simply paying the ticket. A plain bail forfeiture payment closes the case, and the court forwards a reportable conviction to the DMV.

From citation to certificate in Shasta County
What Shasta County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:
- 1
You receive a citation
The officer's agency sends the citation to the court, and the court mails a courtesy notice to the address on it. From then on, the due date on the notice is the one that counts.
- 2
You check the court's rules
Shasta asks for a valid license, a ticket not written in a commercial vehicle, infractions the DMV records, and no traffic school for a ticket issued within 18 months of this one. The charge cannot carry more than one point, involve alcohol or drug possession, exceed the limit by more than 25 miles per hour, or require a court appearance.
- 3
You ask the court
By the due date on your notice, sign up by mail or at the Traffic Unit and pay what the court charges for traffic school. A clerk or judicial officer must agree to your attendance, and the court then sends school information and your completion date.
- 4
You finish a licensed course
The court sets how long you have to finish, and the letter or email it sends shows the date. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756, costs $24.99, and runs online in four languages.
- 5
The court receives your completion
After you pass, the court receives your completion and keeps the conviction confidential, so it stays off your record. If you do not finish in time, the court converts what you paid to forfeited bail and reports the violation to the DMV as a conviction.
