Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Your citation and Courtesy Bail Notice name the courthouse, and the code belongs to that courthouse.

Nevada County Superior Court uses two codes for adult traffic. Code 29460 is the Nevada City Courthouse, and code 29480 is the Truckee Courthouse in the Joseph Government Center. Juvenile cases carry their own codes, 29200 in Nevada City and 29210 in Truckee.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. Choose the courthouse your notice names, not the one nearest your home.

Each number matches a pin on the map. Buildings that hear no traffic are listed apart.

Hears traffic

Pin 1 on the map, at 201 Church Street in Nevada City. It holds traffic hearings under code 29460, along with juvenile justice, status offense and dependency cases, and it houses the court's Self-Help Center and Law Library. Everyone passes a walk-through metal detector and has bags x-rayed, and pocket knives, scissors, glass bottles, pepper spray and knitting needles are among the items the court bans. The clerk answers at (530) 362-4309.

Pin 2 on the map, at 10075 Levon Avenue in Truckee, the court's eastern courthouse. It holds traffic hearings under code 29480, along with juvenile justice and status offense cases. The same clerk line, (530) 362-4309, covers both courthouses.

    Court's page for this building

The court's locations page lists only these two courthouses, so a ticket written in Grass Valley or anywhere else in the county goes to the one your citation names.

The Juvenile Division hears juvenile justice and status offense cases at both courthouses. Juvenile cases are confidential, so the court gives no information by phone, and a party must come in with photo identification.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

The court may mail a Courtesy Bail Notice to the address on your citation. It lists the bail, the due date, whether you qualify for traffic school, how to clear a fix-it violation, and where and when to appear if you want to see a judge. If no notice has come by the date at the bottom of your ticket, look up your case from the court's traffic page or contact the court. The court cannot act on your citation until it reaches the court's system, and it says taking care of the citation by the due date is your responsibility.

Watch for scam text messages about traffic tickets. The court says it never texts a payment link or asks you to act by text, and you can contact the court to confirm any citation.

How to ask for traffic school

Your Courtesy Bail Notice says whether your violations qualify, and the court's traffic page explains how to ask. You ask the court for traffic school and pay what it charges. If your citation does not seem to qualify, contact the court. The court sets its charges, and the notice and the traffic page show them.

The school you choose is independent of the court and charges its own tuition.

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in Nevada County

What Nevada County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The court may mail a Courtesy Bail Notice some weeks after the citation. Act by the due date even if it never comes, because a missed date can make you ineligible for traffic school, send the case to collections with a civil assessment, or add a misdemeanor.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

You qualify if you have a valid license, were driving a non-commercial vehicle, have had no traffic school in the last 18 months, your notice lists your violations as eligible, and your pay or appear date has not passed.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Before the pay or appear date, ask the court for traffic school and pay. Once the court receives your payment, you may take the course.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

Choose a school from the DMV locator the court links. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

An online school sends your certificate to the court on its own. A classroom certificate must reach the court in its original form by the due date, or the citation goes on your DMV record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Nevada County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Yes, once. If you cannot come on the date on your citation and notice, the clerk's office may give a one-time extension of the due date. Contact the court before that date, because the court gives no extension after it.

File a Request for Postponement of Traffic Court Trial well before the trial, by the deadline the traffic page gives, and give a copy to the other side. A judicial officer grants it only for good cause, and the court tells you by mail. Close to the trial date, call the court instead.

Yes, through the Online Trial by Written Declaration, if you face a vehicle code charge only, the appearance is not mandatory, and the due date on your notice has not passed. You need not pay first, but you cannot have an ability to pay petition or another request on file. You give up the right to a new trial.

Your Courtesy Bail Notice says whether you must appear. If you must, go to the named courthouse on the date and time on your citation. If you need not, you may still appear before the judge, enter a plea, and receive a trial date.

Fix the problem and have a law enforcement officer sign off on it. For no proof of insurance, show that you were insured on the violation date, and the court accepts a digital card on your phone. Send the proof by the due date, and pay the court's correction fee for each charge after the court reviews it. A CHP Notice to Correct goes to the CHP, not to the court.

You may hire a lawyer, but the court appoints none for an infraction. You may cross-examine the witnesses, testify, and have the court order your witnesses to appear at no cost to you. If you are found guilty, you may appeal by filing a notice of appeal by the deadline and following court rules.

Ask the court to reduce what you owe, give you more time, or let you do community service instead, online or by mail on form TR-320. Do not use the online tool to ask for traffic school or to contest the ticket. You can ask for a reduction even after a case goes to collections.

Interpreters and language help

Nevada County Superior Court provides interpreters in traffic cases. Ask the clerk at the counter or in the courtroom, or send the Request for Interpreter Services form to the Interpreter Coordinator. Give notice early, because a hearing without an available interpreter may be continued until one is assigned. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
