Court code

Your DMV court code

A DMV court code is five digits long, and every California traffic court has at least one. It is how your completion finds your case at the right court. Your citation names the courthouse, and the code goes with that courthouse.

Placer County Superior Court uses one code for adult traffic, 31455, which the county's home study and internet school list prints as the Roseville Court. That is the Hon. Howard G. Gibson Courthouse. The Superior Court Tahoe Courthouse in Tahoe City also hears traffic but has no code of its own on the DMV list, so a driver with a Tahoe case should ask the clerk which code it carries.

Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code before the final exam. Pick the courthouse on your citation, not the one closest to home.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your case number is on your court summons, and you need it for every option. The court may also mail a bail notice, but it calls that notice a courtesy, and you may not receive one. When one comes, its court date is your official date to pay or appear, even if it differs from the date on your citation.

The court's traffic page links its online portal, where you can confirm that the court has your citation before you come in. For anything else, call the clerk at (916) 408-6000.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

The court's traffic school page explains how Placer County Superior Court takes a traffic school request. You pay the fine plus the administrative fee the court sets, and your notice and that page show the amount. The court's traffic mailing address is P.O. Box 619077, Roseville, CA 95661.

If you pay by mail, the court sends a list of traffic schools to your address. Otherwise, use the links on the traffic school page, which point to the DMV's search for licensed schools and to a list of home study and internet schools.

From citation to certificate in Placer County

What Placer County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The citation carries a court date, and a bail notice, if one comes, may carry a different one. You need not appear unless you want to contest the ticket or your appearance is required, but you must resolve the case on or before the due date.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Placer asks that you have not completed traffic school within 18 months of this citation, drove no commercial vehicle, and were not more than 25 mph over the cited safe speed. Reckless driving, hit and run, an accident with injury, alcohol or drug charges and any two-point violation are excluded.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Before your due date, ask the court for traffic school the way its traffic school page explains, and pay the fine plus the administrative fee the court sets.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court gives you a completion due date. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756, appears on the county's home study and internet list, costs $24.99 and saves your place whenever you stop.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

The court must receive your certificate by your completion due date, and its traffic school page links a status check. Complete on time and no point is recorded against your license. If the certificate does not arrive, the court may report a conviction, add a point, refer the fine to Revenue Services and place a hold on your license.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Placer County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The one your citation or bail notice names. The Hon. Howard G. Gibson Courthouse in Roseville carries code 31455, and the Superior Court Tahoe Courthouse in Tahoe City also hears traffic.

Yes. Ask for a trial by written declaration under Vehicle Code 40902. You and the officer put your statements in writing, and the judge reads them and decides. The court requires the fine to be posted when you ask. You can also request an officer court trial, where you appear and the officer is subpoenaed.

Placer lets you ask for a lower fine, more time to pay or community service, on the Can't Afford to Pay form or at your court date. If no hearing is set, call the clerk at (916) 408-6000 to schedule an ability to pay hearing. You must be present at that hearing for the court to consider your request.

Have an officer of any law enforcement agency sign the back of your citation. Then bring or mail copies of the proof to the court by your due date, with the administrative fee your notice shows. The DMV and the police do not send the proof for you. For an insurance violation, show the policy that covered you when you were cited, because officers cannot sign that one off.

No. Placer County has no district attorney or public defender in the traffic courtroom, so for an infraction you hire your own lawyer.

Only if you want to contest the citation or your appearance is required. A citation with a mandatory appearance means you or your attorney must appear on the date shown.

Not right away. The court says a driver who fails to appear is not eligible until all fees and civil assessments are paid, or until a judge authorizes it in court. You need not pay to come to court, and if you had good cause for missing the date, you may ask for a court appearance.

Interpreters and language help

Placer County Superior Court provides interpreters at no cost in traffic cases. Ask the clerk at the counter when you file, or the courtroom staff at your hearing. The court posts its interpreter request form for civil and family cases in Spanish and Russian. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
