Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Your citation names the branch, and the code belongs to that branch.

El Dorado County Superior Court uses two codes for traffic. Code 09670 is the Cameron Park Branch on the West Slope, and code 09660 is the South Lake Tahoe Branch on the East Slope. The court's traffic page lists only these two branches as places to file a traffic case,. Juvenile infractions have no DMV code of their own.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. Choose the branch your citation names, not the one nearest your home.

A minor cited for most moving violations goes through the Traffic Division, and the date at the bottom of the citation is a due date, not a court date. A minor cited for a non-vehicle code infraction must appear in court, and the Cameron Park Branch lists juvenile infractions among its cases. Juvenile cases never appear on the Web Portal, so call the branch for their status.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your citation carries the citation number and the date by which you must act. The court mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation, and the notice repeats that date. The traffic page links the court's Web Portal under Find Your Citation, and an adult case must appear there before you can resolve it.

A new citation reaches the portal only after the agency that wrote it sends it to the court. If it still has not appeared after the wait the traffic page describes, ask that agency for an update, and keep to the date on your citation meanwhile. For anything the portal does not answer, call the branch on your citation.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

The court's traffic page lists the ways El Dorado County Superior Court takes a traffic school request and explains each one. You ask when you make a timely payment of the fine plus the court's traffic school fee, or at your hearing if you appear. The court sets that fee, and the traffic page shows it. The court says a request made any other way makes you ineligible.

By mail, the request goes on Local Form T-26 to the Cameron Park Branch or the South Lake Tahoe Branch, at the addresses the traffic page lists for filing. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope and the court sends back its traffic school brochure. Once the court authorizes your request, it gives you a list of schools and a completion due date.

Your citation

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in El Dorado County

What El Dorado County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The ticket names the branch and a date. The court mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation, and if none comes you must still address the case by the date on the citation. Missing it can bring a failure to appear and a hold on your DMV record.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

El Dorado asks for no traffic school on a citation from the 18 months before the violation date, a moving violation no more than 25 mph over the limit, no misdemeanor that requires an appearance, no commercial vehicle, no alcohol or drugs, and no more than one point. Vehicle Code sections 22406.5 and 21655.5 do not qualify, and a failure to appear must be cleared first.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Once your case shows on the Web Portal, ask for traffic school with your timely payment of the fine and the court's fee, or at your hearing.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets your completion due date when it authorizes the request, and its traffic page says it grants no extension. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99. The court notes that each school may charge its own fee.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

After you pass, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion electronically. The court's traffic page says traffic school keeps a point off your driving record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about El Dorado County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Act anyway. The court says you must still contact it to address your case by the date on your citation. Call Cameron Park at (530) 621-5047 or South Lake Tahoe at (530) 573-3044.

Yes, once. The court grants a one-time continuance of the arraignment if your case is on the Web Portal, all charges are still active and your date has not passed. Ask before the date on your citation, online, by phone or at either clerk's office.

Yes, by trial by written declaration, which suits a driver who lives out of town. File Local Form T-21 with the bail for your violation, and the court sends you and the officer a declaration form. The decision comes by mail, and the court returns the bail if you are found not guilty.

No. You may hire a lawyer to represent you, but the court says you have no right to a court-appointed lawyer in an infraction case.

Get the proof from the right place. A smog device violation needs an authorized smog inspection station, a light or brake violation needs an authorized inspection station, and any law enforcement office can sign off other defects. Then send the signed citation to the court, which reduces the fine for each corrected violation.

Respond by the date the letter gives, by paying, asking for a trial or addressing the case another way. If you do not respond or show good cause, the court refers the case to a collections agency.

Not to the Traffic Division. DUI cases go to the court's Criminal Division, and a parking ticket goes to the agency that wrote it, because the Superior Court does not handle parking.

Interpreters and language help

El Dorado County Superior Court provides interpreters in traffic cases. Ask for one on Local Form M-47, or tell a clerk at the counter or the courtroom clerk, and give notice early so the court can arrange it in time. Its language access complaint form comes in English and Spanish. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
