Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Your citation and courtesy notice name the court, and the code belongs to it.

Alpine County Superior Court hears every traffic infraction in the county at one courthouse in Markleeville. Adult tickets carry DMV court code 02100. A ticket written to a driver under 18 carries code 02200, the juvenile code for the same building.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For an adult ticket written anywhere in Alpine County, that is Alpine County Superior Court and 02100.

The Traffic Division hears juvenile traffic infractions confidentially, before the adult cases on its traffic calendar, under code 02200. A driver under 18 must appear on the date on the ticket with a parent or guardian and cannot pay a fine instead.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Alpine County Superior Court has no public online case index and no public terminal at the courthouse. Court staff do every search. Your courtesy notice gives your docket number, which is your case number, along with your appearance date, your bail and your options for the case.

Without the notice, call the clerk's office at (530) 694-2113 with the citation in front of you. The citation number sits in the top right corner of the ticket, and the clerk uses it to find your case number.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your courtesy notice lists how to pay and sets out the court's basic traffic school rules, and the court's traffic school page explains each way to ask. The court needs your full bail and its non-refundable traffic school administrative fee together, before your due date. Under California Rule of Court 4.104, a clerk grants the request when you hold a valid license and the violation qualifies.

If you ask by mail, send it to Alpine County Superior Court, P.O. Box 518, Markleeville, CA 96120, and write traffic school and your docket number on the payment. The court does not take filings by email.

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in Alpine County

What Alpine County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The court mails a courtesy notice to the address on your citation. Alpine calendars every traffic case from the response date on the ticket, so you never call to get on calendar, and a missing notice is no excuse for missing that date.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

The court lists what normally rules a driver out: traffic school for a violation in the 18 months before this one, a commercial vehicle driven on a commercial license, more than 25 mph over the limit, or an open failure to appear or failure to pay.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Before your due date, pay the bail and the court's traffic school fee together, the way your courtesy notice describes. The court then mails instructions for the DMV's list of licensed schools to the address it has on file.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets how long you have to finish and counts from your payment or your court appearance, and the clerk cannot extend it. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756, costs $24.99, and saves your place whenever you stop.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

The school reports your completion to the court electronically, so you send no certificate. The conviction is then held confidential and does not show on your driving record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Alpine County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The court treats it as your choice of a trial by declaration in absentia under Vehicle Code section 40903. If it finds you guilty, you owe the bail on your notice, and an unpaid balance brings a civil assessment and a referral to a collection agency or the California Franchise Tax Board.

Ask for a court trial at your arraignment, or file local form ALP-TR-003 with the clerk. A court trial is before a judge, with witnesses and evidence and no jury. For a trial by written declaration, read form TR-200 and send form TR-205 with the full bail. When the court receives a payment on its own, it declares the bail forfeited and closes the case, so the bail must travel with the request.

The violation is correctable when the Yes box beside it on your citation is checked. After the repair, a sheriff's office, the CHP, a police department or an authorized station signs the Certificate of Correction on the back of the ticket. Law enforcement cannot sign off insurance, so send a copy of a policy or card valid on the citation date. Mail the signed citation to the court, and do not pay for a correction online until court staff confirm the court has filed your proof.

Yes, if you were not driving a commercial vehicle when you were cited. No point is added, but the court says the conviction is not reported as confidential. It suggests calling the DMV Mandatory Actions Unit at (916) 657-6525 so your record is adjusted correctly.

Ask your own state's DMV first. The court reports every violation to the California DMV and accepts completions only from schools the California DMV licenses.

You can ask the court to consider your ability to pay at any point, but you must first plead guilty or no contest. File form TR-320 before or after your due date, even once the case is in collections, and a judge decides and mails you the decision. The court's online fine reduction tool is not the way to ask for traffic school.

Before 2023, the court sent unpaid cases to collections and told the DMV to hold the license for failure to appear. To clear such a hold, pay the account in full with the court. Its collections staff answer at (530) 694-2113, extension 324.

Interpreters and language help

Alpine County Superior Court posts a Request for Interpreter form and a language access complaint form, and it points to the Judicial Council's language access website. Call the clerk's office at (530) 694-2113 to ask about an interpreter before your hearing date. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
