Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

The front of your citation carries the citation number, the date and time you were cited, the violations, and the place and time by which you promised to appear. It then mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation, though it says it does not have to. If you have moved, tell the court, so the notice reaches you and you avoid added penalties.

The court's traffic page links its online portal, where you can find your case. Put your docket number on anything you send the court, and call the clerk at (209) 754-9800 for anything the papers do not answer.

How to ask for traffic school

Calaveras County Superior Court asks you to call the clerk at (209) 754-9800 before you pay for traffic school. Your reminder notice and the court's traffic page show the ways to ask and what to pay. You pay the entire bail plus the court's traffic school fee, and the school you pick charges its own fee on top.

The court takes mail at 400 Government Center Drive, San Andreas, CA 95249. Once it receives your request, it sends no other notice, so read the completion time on the court's traffic page when you ask.

What the court does with your ticket, and what Mirai Traffic School does for you.

From citation to certificate in Calaveras County

What Calaveras County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The front names the violations and the place and time by which you promised to appear. The court mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation, but the notice is not mandatory, so the citation is what you go by.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

You cannot take traffic school if you attended it in the last 18 months, counted from violation date to violation date. The court or the DMV can tell you whether your violation qualifies.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Call the clerk first. Then pay the entire bail and the court's traffic school fee the way your reminder notice describes.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court links the DMV's list of traffic schools, and the court's traffic page states how long you have, counted from the day it receives your request. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756, costs $24.99, and saves your place whenever you stop.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

When you finish and pay the court's fee within the time it allows, the court reports the ticket to the DMV as a confidential conviction. The DMV then adds no point to your record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Calaveras County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Clerks may grant one extension of an unresolved infraction when you ask. If you still need time after that, call (209) 754-9800 on or before the extended date to be placed on the infraction calendar. A case already sent to collections is not calendared unless a formal motion has been filed.

Appear on your arraignment date, or post bail and ask in writing for a court trial or a trial by written declaration. The court wants the bail and your written request together, so call it at (209) 754-9800 before you post bail on a contested ticket. An infraction gets no jury and no court appointed lawyer.

At a court trial you appear before a judge, and the officer who wrote the ticket is subpoenaed. You may subpoena your own witnesses and hire a lawyer, and you may appeal the ruling. A trial by written declaration is open only for Vehicle Code infractions. You and the officer each send a written statement, and a judge rules on both. The bail comes back by mail if you win, and if you lose you may ask for a new court trial.

Have an officer of a law enforcement agency fill out the Certificate of Correction on the back of your citation. A DMV clerk can certify registration and driver's license violations. The court charges a fee for each correctable violation, and you pay it along with the proof.

The court names two kinds: zero-tolerance citations, and county code ordinances involving damage to persons or property. For those, plan to appear on the date your citation gives.

Ask the court to consider your ability to pay, at any point, with proof that you lack the means. It answers only after you plead guilty or no contest. Use the court's online fine reduction tool or form TR-320, and call the clerk's office about the form. The online tool is not the way to ask for traffic school, contest the ticket or clear a fix-it violation. If you do not act by the date on your citation and reminder notice, the court may add a fee.

The court may convict you under Vehicle Code section 40903, add a civil assessment and start collection actions such as wage garnishment. You can appear on that citation to clear the failure to appear, and the court releases the DMV hold once you appear. If your case went to collections, call the agency named on your notice. The court's collection representative answers at (209) 754-5978, and the Franchise Tax Board's court-ordered debt program at 1-800-272-9829.

Not once you finish. The court says the DMV discloses a confidential conviction to no third party but a court, and that includes your insurance company. Pay without traffic school and it is a conviction, and most moving violations stay on your record for 3 years with 1 point.

Interpreters and language help

Ask for an interpreter on the court's Request for Interpreter form or tell a clerk at the counter, as soon as you know you need one. The court provides one through Language Line, or it moves your hearing to a date when an interpreter is free. Its interpreter request form comes in Spanish, Russian and seven other languages, and its traffic page has a Spanish version. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
