Court code

Your DMV court code

A DMV court code is the five-digit number that carries your completion to the right court. Your citation and courtesy notice name the courthouse, and the code follows that courthouse.

San Joaquin County Superior Court has one adult traffic code on the DMV list, 39460, filed under the Stockton Courthouse. The Manteca Courthouse and the two Lodi buildings also take traffic but have no code of their own, so a driver cited there should ask that branch's traffic line which code the case uses. Juvenile citations carry code 39100, listed for the Juvenile Justice Center in French Camp.

Mirai Traffic School asks for your court and its code before the final exam. Pick the building your notice names, even when another branch is closer to home.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

The front of your citation carries the citation number, the date and time of the stop, the violations and the place where you promised to appear. The court may then mail a courtesy notice to the address on the citation, and a notice sent to an old address may never reach you.

When no notice comes, following up is your job. The court's traffic page links its case management search, which shows whether the citing agency has sent your citation to the court. For written questions, the same page has an online form that asks for your name as it appears on your license, your date of birth, the citation or case number and your license number.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your courtesy notice tells you how San Joaquin County Superior Court takes a traffic school request, and the court's traffic page explains it. The court charges an administrative fee on top of the bail printed on the notice, and the school you choose collects its own fee separately. The notice and the traffic page show the court's amounts.

Stockton traffic mail goes to the Traffic Department, 180 E. Weber Ave., Suite 203, Stockton, CA 95202. Manteca takes mail at 315 E. Center Street, and both Lodi buildings take it at 315 W. Elm Street. A citation with a fix-it violation follows its own path, so read the notice for how to send the proof of correction.

From citation to certificate in San Joaquin County

What San Joaquin County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The citation lists the violations and the place you promised to appear. Some sections require a mandatory appearance, and then the notice gives the hearing date and where you must appear in person.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

San Joaquin asks for a valid California license, no traffic school assigned or attended in the last 18 months, an infraction rather than a misdemeanor, and no section that needs a mandatory appearance. Speed must stay within 25 mph over the posted limit and at or under 100 mph, a commercial license holder must have been in a personal vehicle, and some serious violations are excluded.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Ask the way your courtesy notice describes, and pay the bail and the court's administrative fee. The court sets both amounts, and the notice and the traffic page show them.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sends drivers to the DMV's list of schools, all licensed and regulated by the DMV. Mirai Traffic School is licensed as E0756, costs $24.99, and keeps your place when you stop. The court sets the date to finish by, and your notice shows it.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

After you pass, the court receives your completion. If traffic school is not completed, the court forfeits all the fines and fees you posted, so keep your completion confirmation.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about San Joaquin County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Yes. Call the clerk at your branch's number or go to that court's traffic window to set an arraignment, and you post no bail for it. The citing officer is not there. The court explains your rights and the charges, you enter a plea, and a not guilty plea gets a trial date.

Yes, for Vehicle Code infractions and local ordinances adopted under the Vehicle Code. You pay the full Amount Due with the request and plead not guilty in writing without coming to court. If the court finds you guilty, traffic school is up to the judicial officer.

For an infraction, you can file an Ex Parte Motion to Vacate Conviction, found on the court's Local Forms page. The traffic page states the deadline, counted from the original trial date, so check it and file quickly.

Ask the court to reduce what you owe based on your ability to pay, with proof that you lack the means. You can also ask for community service or more time. The court answers only after a plea of guilty or no contest, and its online ability to pay tool is not for traffic school or for contesting the ticket.

No. A commercial license holder cited in a personal vehicle may attend, but the conviction and point may still show on the record. The court says not to contact it about the point, because it cannot contact the DMV for you. The DMV Mandatory Actions department answers at (916) 657-6525.

You can still appear in court, apply for an ability to pay decision, or contact the collection agency. The clerk's office helps at (209) 992-5692.

Have the vehicle inspected, then get the citation or the back of the courtesy notice signed by any law enforcement agency or DMV office. Proof of insurance cannot be signed off. Bring proof you were insured on the date of the violation to the Traffic Clerk's Office.

Interpreters and language help

San Joaquin County Superior Court offers interpreters in all case types, traffic included. Ask as early as possible, because a late request can postpone the hearing when no interpreter is free. The Interpreter Coordinator takes requests at (209) 992-5364. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
