Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code, and your completion reaches your case through it. The court location is printed at the bottom of your ticket, the reminder notice names the courthouse handling the case, and the code belongs to that courthouse.

Contra Costa County Superior Court uses three codes for traffic. Code 07480 is the Walnut Creek Juvenile and Traffic Center, code 07460 is the George D. Carroll Courthouse in Richmond, and code 07465 is the Richard E. Arnason Justice Center in Pittsburg. The court assigns a traffic case by where the citation was issued, so the code follows where you were stopped, not where you live.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. Choose the courthouse your ticket or notice names.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your ticket prints the court location at the bottom, and that court has your case. The court then mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation. It shows your due date, how much you owe, whether you can go to traffic school, any proof of correction you need, and your options for handling the citation.

The court's traffic page links its traffic portal and its ticket payment page. For anything the notice does not answer, call the court at (925) 608-1000 or ask at the clerk's office of the court named on your ticket. Parking tickets are not court cases here, so contact the city printed on a parking ticket.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your reminder notice says whether your ticket is eligible and lists your options, and the court's traffic school page explains the steps. Contra Costa County Superior Court asks you to pay the fine and a traffic school administrative fee. The court sets both amounts, and the notice shows them.

You can also handle it in person at the clerk's office of the court location printed at the bottom of your ticket.

From citation to certificate in Contra Costa County

What Contra Costa County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The officer writes the court location at the bottom of the ticket. The court mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation, and you must take care of the ticket on time even if that notice never comes.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

The court's traffic school page names two conditions: a valid California license, and no traffic school in California in the past 18 months, counted violation date to violation date. Your courtesy notice says whether your ticket is eligible.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Pay the fine and the traffic school administrative fee the way your notice describes, or at the clerk's office of the court printed on your ticket. The court sets both amounts.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sends you to the DMV's list of licensed traffic schools. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99. The court sets how long you have to finish, and your notice shows the due date.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

An online school sends the court an electronic certificate. The court still says it is your responsibility to make sure the certificate arrives, so keep your completion record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Contra Costa County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Act anyway. The court says you must take care of your ticket on time even without a reminder notice. The court location at the bottom of your ticket tells you which clerk's office to contact, and the court answers at (925) 608-1000.

The court can add a civil assessment and send the case to its collection agency. A notice that a civil assessment was added means the court saw no action or no payment by the due date. You can ask the court to vacate it for good cause on form TR-320, by mail or in person to the court named on the citation.

Ask the court to consider your ability to pay, with proof that you lack the means to pay, through the online hardship tool the traffic page links or on form TR-320. The court needs a guilty or no contest plea before it answers. Besides a reduction, you can ask for more time to pay or for community service instead of the fine. Misdemeanor and felony fines do not qualify.

No. The court says not to use its online hardship tool to attend traffic school, to contest the citation, or to clear a fix-it violation with proof of correction. Follow your reminder notice for traffic school instead.

No. Contra Costa County Superior Court does not handle parking tickets. Contact the city printed on the ticket.

On January 17, 2024, the court discharged its accountability to collect old traffic debt, as it also did on August 13, 2018. The court posts both orders on its traffic page, with a list of the infraction cases discharged in 2018.

It can. The court warns that if you are eligible and decide not to attend, your automobile insurance may be affected. Completing the program keeps one conviction in any 18-month period confidential, so it does not show on your driving record.

Interpreters and language help

To ask for a court interpreter, fill out form MC-300 and give it to any window or courtroom clerk, or email it to the court's Interpreter Services, with a new form for each hearing. Telephone interpretation in many languages is available at the filing windows. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
