Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. The code tells the DMV which court should receive your completion. Your citation and courtesy notice name the courthouse, and the code goes with that courthouse.

Alameda County Superior Court uses two codes for traffic. Code 01440 is the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland, and code 01430 is the Fremont Hall of Justice. The East County Hall of Justice in Dublin takes traffic cases but has no code of its own on the DMV list, so ask its clerk which code your case carries. The DMV list has no juvenile code for Alameda County.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. Pick the courthouse on your notice, not the one closest to where you live.

A traffic infraction written to a minor stays in the traffic divisions, and the court mails the courtesy notice to a parent or guardian. Juvenile traffic misdemeanors and unlicensed driving go to the Probation Department instead.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your citation lists the violations, the issuing agency, the place of the violation, the citation number and the officer. The date at the bottom is not a court date. It is the date by which you must act on the citation.

The courtesy notice goes to the address on the citation. It shows the bail, any proof of correction the court needs, whether you must appear in court, and whether traffic school is open to you.

The court's traffic page links the court's own ticket lookup and its court date search. The courthouse traffic counter can also give you a preset court date in person or by phone, so have your case number or citation number ready. The same counter gives you a copy of a lost citation.

How to ask for traffic school

Alameda County Superior Court asks you to pay the bail and a state-mandated traffic school administrative fee to the court before you sign up with a school. The court sets both amounts, your courtesy notice shows them and the ways to respond, and the court's traffic school page explains each step.

Once the court has your payment, it continues your citation so you can attend and finish the course. If your case has a failure to appear, a warrant or a civil assessment, that charge must be settled or paid in full before you can attend.

From citation to certificate in Alameda County

What Alameda County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The officer's citation lists your violations and a date at the bottom. That date is when you must act, not a court date. The court then mails a courtesy notice to the address on the citation.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Alameda asks for a valid commercial or non-commercial license on the day you were cited, no traffic school in the 18 months before counted violation date to violation date, and a moving violation that is not a misdemeanor and needs no mandatory appearance. The citation cannot involve alcohol, drugs or a commercial vehicle, and speed of 25 mph or more over the limit is not eligible.

  3. 3

    You pay the court

Pay the bail and the administrative fee as your courtesy notice describes, before you sign up with a school.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

Choose a school from the California Traffic Safety Institute list the court points to. Mirai Traffic School is on the Alameda County list, is licensed by the DMV as E0756, and costs $24.99. The court sets how long you have to finish, and your notice shows the date.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

The school files your certificate of completion with the court electronically. If proof of completion does not reach the court by the due date, the court forfeits the bail, reports a conviction to the DMV and a point goes on your driving record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Alameda County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

Bring your citation to a Traffic Division window in Fremont, Oakland or Dublin. The court names common reasons: the officer's agency has not yet sent the citation, the DMV has an old address, or the address on the citation is wrong. A missing notice is not a legal excuse, so the due date still holds.

No. Parking tickets go to the agency that wrote them. A DUI and any adult misdemeanor or felony go to the court's Criminal Division, and a citation written outside Alameda County goes to that county's court.

Yes, for a vehicle code infraction with no accident. Send your signed request or form TR-205 with the full bail by the due date on your courtesy notice. The court asks the officer for a written report, a commissioner reviews both sides, and the ruling comes by mail.

Yes. Under Rule of Court 4.105 you may ask for a trial without depositing bail, and it takes two appearances. First comes an arraignment, where you plead not guilty by the due date on your notice. The court sets the trial date at that hearing.

Ask the court to consider your ability to pay. You qualify if you receive benefits such as SSI, CalWORKS, CAPI, IHSS or Medi-Cal, or if your income is at or under 250% of the federal poverty level. You supply the documents that prove it.

You can petition the court to vacate it for good cause, such as military duty out of state, a hospital stay, custody, or not being the person cited. Send the application by mail or in person to the Traffic Division in Fremont, Oakland or Dublin, and a judicial officer mails the decision.

Interpreters and language help

Alameda County Superior Court provides court interpreters at no charge. In a traffic case, tell the clerk at the filing window that you need an interpreter when you come to court to set a hearing date. The court's written interpreter request form comes in Spanish, among other languages. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
