Calaveras County had 46,605 residents in the Census estimate for July 1, 2025, up from 45,285 in 2020. State Route 49 links San Andreas and Angels Camp, State Route 4 climbs from Copperopolis through Murphys to Arnold, and State Routes 12 and 26 come in from the valley to the west. In 2023 the California Office of Traffic Safety counted 358 people killed or injured in county crashes, 18th of 58 counties in a ranking where 1st is the worst. Alcohol-involved crashes rank 10th, and crashes where a driver under 21 had been drinking rank 4th.

Every ticket goes to the Calaveras Superior Court at 400 Government Center Drive in San Andreas, the one courthouse in the county. The California Highway Patrol's San Andreas Area covers all of Calaveras County, and its tickets go to the same court. The court mails a reminder notice to the address on the citation, but it says it does not have to, so keep track of your own date.

Before you pay for traffic school, the court asks you to call the clerk at (209) 754-9800. You then pay the entire bail plus the court's traffic school fee, and the school you choose charges its own. Finish and pay the fee within the time the court allows, and it reports the ticket to the DMV as a confidential conviction with no point on your record.

Two payments. The court takes the entire bail plus its traffic school fee, and your reminder notice and the court's traffic page show the amounts. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, final exam included. If the court's share is more than you can pay, ask it to consider your ability to pay, which it can answer only after a plea of guilty or no contest.

Call the clerk at (209) 754-9800 before you pay anything. The court or the DMV can tell you whether your violation qualifies. Then pay the way your reminder notice describes.

The court sets the time and counts it from the day it receives your traffic school request, and its traffic page states it. No reminder follows, so write the date down yourself. If you need time before you ask, the clerk may generally grant a one time extension of an unresolved infraction.

The court makes that call, not Mirai Traffic School. You are not eligible if you attended traffic school in the last 18 months, counted from violation date to violation date. Tickets that need a mandatory appearance, such as zero-tolerance citations, go before a judge first.

Appear in court on that citation to clear the failure to appear. The court releases the DMV hold once you appear. If the case has gone to collections, call the agency named on your notice so you do not pay twice.
