Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask most about a Tuolumne County citation.

The statewide rules

Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.

The court sets the time and counts it from the date it processes your request. Two parts of its traffic page give different counts for that time, so ask the clerk at (209) 533-5671 which date is on your case and finish before the earlier one. The court also allows one extension of the due date on your courtesy notice.

Two separate payments. The court charges your bail plus its Traffic School Administrative Fee. Your courtesy notice shows the bail, and the court's traffic page shows the fee. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, paid to us. You may ask the court to consider your ability to pay, but it answers only after you plead guilty or no contest.

Mark the traffic school box on the options part of your courtesy notice, sign it and mail it with the amount due by the due date. You can also call (209) 533-5671 or ask at the courthouse. Correctable violations need signed proof, sent by mail or brought in person.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School, and your courtesy notice shows your first eligibility. You need a valid license and no traffic school in the last 18 months. Speeding more than 25 miles over the limit, alcohol or drug violations, violations worth more than one point and tickets in a commercial vehicle are excluded. Attending when you are not eligible brings a reported conviction and no refund.

The court links the California Traffic Safety Institute list. That list has no school inside Tuolumne County and names the nearest ones, and it includes Mirai Traffic School, E0756, among its online schools.

The Traffic Division handles juvenile infractions too. Appearance is mandatory, with a parent or legal guardian, and the court mails a Notice of Hearing. If it does not come, call (209) 533-5671.

Mirai Traffic School teaches in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian. Court Support Services arranges free interpreters in every language. For a traffic matter, call (209) 533-5563 as early as you can, because a late request can push your hearing to another date.
