What the roads, the courts and the rules mean for a citation in El Dorado County.

El Dorado County climbs from the Sacramento County line to Lake Tahoe's south shore, home to 192,323 people in the Census estimate for July 1, 2025. US 50 crosses it from El Dorado Hills through Placerville to South Lake Tahoe, meeting State Route 49 in Placerville and State Route 89 near the lake. State Route 193 winds up to Georgetown.

The California Office of Traffic Safety counted 1,004 people killed or injured in El Dorado County crashes in 2023, 47th of 58 counties, with 1st the worst. Children on foot stand out. Eight pedestrians under 15 were killed or injured, 10th in the state.

Two branches hear traffic, the Cameron Park Branch on the West Slope and the South Lake Tahoe Branch on the East Slope. If the court's Reminder Notice never arrives, the date on your ticket still counts. The court adds a non-refundable fee of its own when you ask for traffic school, and it sets your completion due date with no extension. A minor cited for an infraction outside the Vehicle Code must appear in court.

The CHP's Placerville and South Lake Tahoe Areas patrol the unincorporated county, and their tickets go to the same Superior Court as city police tickets.

The statewide rules

Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.

Two separate payments. The court adds its own non-refundable traffic school fee to your fine, and its traffic page shows the amount. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, paid to us.

The court sets your completion due date when it authorizes your request, and it grants no extension. Its one-time continuance moves only your arraignment date. Ask for traffic school with your timely payment or at your hearing, or you lose eligibility.

Your case must first appear on the court's Web Portal. Then request traffic school online, mail Local Form T-26 to either branch with a stamped self-addressed envelope, pay and ask at a clerk's office, or plead guilty or no contest in court and ask there.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School. You need no traffic school on a citation issued within 18 months of this violation date, a moving violation no more than 25 mph over the limit with no mandatory appearance, a non-commercial vehicle, no alcohol or drugs, no charge under Vehicle Code 22406.5 or 21655.5, and no more than one point. Clear any failure to appear first. Unsure? Call either branch.

Its Find a Traffic School link opens the California Traffic Safety Institute page for El Dorado County. That list shows Mirai Traffic School as E0756, an internet course, and again under its Japanese and Russian headings. Its classroom sheet says there are no traffic schools in the county.

You can study and take Mirai Traffic School's final exam in English, Spanish, Japanese or Russian. For court, El Dorado County provides interpreters in traffic cases when you give notice on Local Form M-47.

The court lists no traffic at Placerville's Main Street Branch, only at Cameron Park and South Lake Tahoe. Some school sites still file code 09670 under Placerville, one at 2850 Fairlane Court. The CTSI list ties 09670 to Cameron Park but prints 3321 Cameron Park Drive, not the court's 2927 Meder Road, so check first.
