In 2023 the California Office of Traffic Safety counted 680 people killed or injured in county crashes, 46th of 58 counties in a ranking where 1st is the worst. Bicycle crashes rank higher than the total. Cyclists killed or injured numbered 32, 28th in the state.

The CHP's Humboldt Area serves the north of the county and its Garberville Area the south, and a ticket from either lands in the same court as one from a city police officer. The court sets its traffic school fee and the date to finish, and your reminder notice shows what you owe.

The appearance date at the bottom of a ticket applies only to misdemeanors and felonies. For an infraction, act by the due date even if no reminder notice arrives, and mail anything early enough to reach the court before that date. A missed date can bring a DMV hold on your license that also keeps you out of traffic school.

Two separate payments. The court charges its non-refundable Traffic School Administration Fee on top of your fine, and your reminder notice shows what you owe. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, paid to us as the school's tuition. If you cannot afford the fine, you can ask the court to reduce it.

Look for option 5 on your reminder notice, which says whether you are eligible. Then pay the fine and the court's fee by your due date, the way the notice describes, and choose your school through the DMV.

Until the date the court gives you. The court sets it, so read the date on the court's papers and finish before it.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School. You cannot attend for more than 25 mph over the limit, an equipment or non-moving violation, a misdemeanor, a mandatory appearance or an alcohol violation, or if you attended in the last 18 months. With an out-of-state license, contact the court first.

You still must act by the date on the bottom of your citation. Missing it can lead to a hold on your license and a referral to collections.
