DMV court code 23480, printed in the return address on your courtesy notice. The Traffic Division works from the Mendocino County Courthouse in Ukiah and the Ten Mile Branch in Fort Bragg, phone (707) 463-4660.

Citations issued to drivers under 18 are handled separately: Mendocino Juvenile Probation, DMV court code 23210.

Important

The court decides whether you are eligible for traffic school. Mirai Traffic School cannot approve or guarantee eligibility. Check your courtesy notice, or ask Mendocino County Superior Court, if you are unsure.

Mendocino County's two traffic counters, in Ukiah and Fort Bragg

What the roads, the courts and the rules mean for a citation in Mendocino County.

Mendocino County had 88,122 residents in the Census estimate for July 1, 2025. US 101 runs inland through Hopland, Ukiah, Willits and Laytonville, State Route 1 follows the coast through Point Arena and Fort Bragg, State Route 20 links Willits to Fort Bragg, and State Route 128 winds through Boonville to the sea. In 2023 the California Office of Traffic Safety counted 473 people killed or injured in county crashes, 43rd of 58 counties in a ranking where 1st is the worst. Motorcyclists made up 56 of them.

The Traffic Division handles every traffic citation written in the county from two counters, the Mendocino County Courthouse at 100 North State Street in Ukiah and the Ten Mile Branch at 700 South Franklin Street in Fort Bragg. Both answer at (707) 463-4660. The CHP's Ukiah Area patrols the county's highways and unincorporated roads, and its Garberville Area covers the northern end, so a CHP ticket on US 101 or State Route 1 reaches this Traffic Division just as one from a city police officer does.

Your courtesy notice says whether you can take traffic school. For an eligible ticket, paying the court's traffic school fee authorizes the course automatically, and the clerk then moves your due date to give you time to finish. The court sets both the fee and that time, and its traffic school page shows them.

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask most about a Mendocino County citation.

The statewide rules

Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.

Your fine plus the court's traffic school administrative fee, which the court adds to your balance and does not refund if you turn out to be ineligible. Mirai Traffic School's course is a separate $24.99. The fine depends on the violation, and your courtesy notice shows what you owe.

If your courtesy notice says you are eligible, sign up on the court's website or send its request form. Pay the fine and the court's traffic school fee by your due date, and for an eligible ticket, paying the fee authorizes traffic school automatically.

The court sets the time, and its traffic school page shows it. When you ask for traffic school and pay the fee, the clerk moves your due date so the time counts from your request. Without the fee paid, your completion certificate is not valid.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School, and your courtesy notice says whether you qualify. You cannot attend if you took traffic school for a violation less than 18 months before this one.

The DMV's online locator of licensed schools, which the court links, or a mailed list from the DMV at (800) 777-0133. Mirai Traffic School holds DMV license E0756.

Yes, if you cannot afford the full fine. Form MTR-500 asks the court for a fine reduction and traffic school together, and a judge decides and tells you by mail.

Mirai Traffic School teaches in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian. For a hearing, tell Mendocino County Superior Court as soon as you know you need an interpreter, using its form MMC-110. Only qualified court interpreters may interpret in court, so a friend or relative cannot do it for you.
