Interstate 5 runs the length of the county through Corning and Red Bluff, State Route 99 heads south through Los Molinos, and State Route 36 climbs east past Paynes Creek to Mineral. In 2023 the California Office of Traffic Safety counted 371 people killed or injured in county crashes, 10th of 58 counties in a ranking where 1st is the worst. Hit-and-run crashes rank 7th and nighttime crashes 8th.

Every ticket goes to the Traffic Division of Tehama County Superior Court at 1740 Walnut Street in Red Bluff, the one courthouse where the court hears every case type. The California Highway Patrol's Red Bluff Area serves the county and the Susanville Area's Chester Resident Post covers part of it, so a CHP ticket lands in the same court as one from a city police officer.

After a citation, the court mails a Reminder Notice that shows how much you owe, the due date and whether you can take traffic school. It also carries your docket number, which the court needs to find your account. If the notice does not come, call the phone number on your ticket.

When traffic school is open to you, you ask for it by paying the bail and the court's non-refundable traffic violator school fee together, before the due date. The court sets that fee and the time to finish. To find a licensed school, the court points drivers to the DMV.

Two separate payments. The court charges your bail plus its own non-refundable traffic school fee, and your Reminder Notice shows how much to pay. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, paid to us. If you cannot afford the court's amount, you can ask it electronically for a lower fine or community service.

Pay the bail and the court's traffic school fee together, by the due date on your Reminder Notice. Any correctable violations on the ticket must be corrected, with their fees, at the same time.

The court sets the time, counts it from the date it receives your payment and shows it on its traffic page. Before your due date, the Clerk's Office may give a one-time extension of the date on your citation, which moves only the date to pay.

If the court has no certificate by the due date, it keeps your traffic school fee as forfeited bail and notifies the DMV of a conviction. Confirming that the school filed it is your job, so call the clerk once the court has had time to receive it.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School. You need a valid license, no traffic school within 18 months counted from violation date to violation date, and an eligible violation. A driver in a commercial vehicle does not qualify.

The court mails the Reminder Notice to the driver and the parents. For a non-correctable violation, a driver who lives in the county must appear in court with a parent or guardian.
