Trinity County had 15,720 residents in the Census estimate for July 1, 2025, down from 16,116 in 2020, and no incorporated city. The court notes there is just one stoplight in the whole county. State Route 299 winds through Douglas City, Junction City and Burnt Ranch, State Route 3 runs to Hayfork, and State Route 36 crosses the south at Mad River. In 2023 the California Office of Traffic Safety counted 107 people killed or injured in county crashes, 3rd of 58 counties in a ranking where 1st is the worst. Nighttime crashes rank 2nd and pedestrian victims 3rd.

Every ticket goes to the Main Courthouse at 11 Court Street in Weaverville, where every court division works. The California Highway Patrol's Trinity River Area patrols the county's highways, and a ticket from a CHP officer on State Route 299 lands in the same court as one from a Trinity County Sheriff's deputy.

The court takes traffic school requests on the courtesy notice itself. If the notice says you are eligible, sign the bottom, check the traffic school box, and pay the court's non-refundable traffic school fee plus the bail by the due date. The court sets that fee and your date to finish, and the bail is on your notice.

Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Two separate payments. The court charges the bail on your courtesy notice plus its own non-refundable traffic school fee, and the notice and the court's traffic school page show what you owe. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, paid to us.

Paying the bail alone is called forfeiting bail, and the court counts it as a conviction. Most moving violations then stay on your driving record for 3 years as 1 point. To take traffic school instead, pay the court's fee with the bail and return the signed notice.

The court sets it. Once it has your request, it continues your case and directs you to finish by a date it gives you. If your certificate is not back by then, the fee becomes forfeited bail and the violation shows on your record.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School. It must be a moving violation, with no traffic school in the past 18 months, no more than three infractions and no misdemeanor on your record, and no speeding over 25 mph above the limit. Commercial vehicle, alcohol and drug violations are excluded.

The court can impose a civil assessment and send the case to collections, place a hold on your license, raise your bail and issue a warrant. It may also treat the missed date as your choice of a trial by written declaration. Call (530) 623-1208 before the date if you are stuck.
