Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Mendocino County Superior Court prints its code as part of the return address on your courtesy notice, and your school needs it together with the docket number on the same notice.

The Traffic Division handles every traffic and other infraction citation issued in Mendocino County, at the Mendocino County Courthouse in Ukiah and at the Ten Mile Branch in Fort Bragg. Code 23480 belongs to the Ukiah courthouse. The Ten Mile Branch has no code of its own on the DMV list, so a Fort Bragg driver gives the school the code printed on the notice. Juvenile traffic carries code 23210.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code, and the return address on your notice settles both.

The court lists no traffic counter beyond Ukiah and Fort Bragg, so older listings for Boonville or Covelo are out of date.

Juvenile traffic has its own clerk in the Ukiah courthouse at (707) 468-2009. A juvenile cited for an infraction gets a notice setting a hearing before a judge, and the hearing is confidential and needs a parent or legal guardian. Traffic school happens only when the judge orders it, and the judge may send a first-time offender to the CHP Start Smart program instead.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

The court mails a courtesy notice to the address on your citation. It tells you how much you owe, the due date and your options, and it carries the court code in its return address and the docket number your school needs. If the address on your citation is wrong, contact the court as soon as possible.

The court does not process courtesy notices right after the citation, and it cannot give information on your case until it processes the citation, so it asks you not to call until the due date is near. The court's traffic page links its case search, by citation number, case number or your name and birthdate.

How to ask for traffic school

If your courtesy notice says you are eligible, Mendocino County Superior Court lets you sign up for traffic school through its website or send its request form, and the court's traffic violator school page explains both. You pay the fine and the court's traffic school fee by the due date, and your notice and the traffic pages show the amount and the ways to pay. Once an eligible driver pays the fee, the court authorizes traffic school and the clerk extends the due date.

If you have a financial hardship, form MTR-500 asks the court for a fine reduction and traffic school together. A judge reviews it and tells you the ruling by mail.

From citation to certificate in Mendocino County

What Mendocino County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The court mails a courtesy notice to the address on your citation. If none comes, you must still act by the date on the citation, at the clerk's office or by mail. A later date on the notice replaces the citation's date.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Your courtesy notice says whether you qualify. You do not qualify if you attended traffic school for a violation less than 18 months before this one, and some violations cannot go to traffic school at all.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Sign up and pay the fine and the court's traffic school fee by the due date, as your notice shows. The fee is nonrefundable, even if the court later finds you ineligible.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets the time to finish, counted from your request, and its traffic violator school page shows it. Find a school through the DMV's online locator, where Mirai Traffic School appears, and give it the court code and docket number. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

Your school notifies the DMV, and the court hears of your completion the next day. The court then reports a confidential conviction to the DMV, which stays off your public driving record. The court's Court Certificate Service list lets you confirm the court has it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Mendocino County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

One Traffic Division handles every traffic citation in the county, from counters in Ukiah and Fort Bragg that share the line (707) 463-4660. Your courtesy notice names the court and prints the code in its return address.

Yes. Enter the plea before the due date on your citation, using the court's web form, and you need no bail deposit to ask for a court trial. The court then gives you a date and tells the officer to appear. If you miss the trial, it can go ahead and find you guilty without you.

Send forms TR-200 and TR-205 with the full fine on your courtesy notice by the due date on your citation, along with any witness statements, exhibits and a self-addressed stamped envelope. The judge's decision comes by mail.

Yes, online from a school the California DMV licenses. By the due date on your citation, send a copy of your driving record from your home state, the fine with the court's traffic school fee, and form MTR-290 saying you had no traffic school anywhere in the United States for a citation in the 18 months before this one.

The court converts the traffic school fee to fine and reports the violation to the DMV as a conviction. If the fee was never paid, the court treats the course as unauthorized, and the certificate is invalid.

Your courtesy notice may offer a reduced fine for correcting a mechanical problem such as taillights, headlights or mirrors, or a license, registration or insurance violation. It may also offer community service in place of the fine.

Interpreters and language help

Tell Mendocino County Superior Court as soon as you know you need an interpreter. Use the court's form MMC-110, filed with the clerk's office or emailed to interpreter.coordinator@mendocino.courts.ca.gov. Only qualified court interpreters may interpret in court, so a friend or relative cannot do it for you. Its language access complaint form comes in Spanish. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
