Court code

Your DMV court code

Every California traffic court has a five-digit DMV court code. It matches your completion to your case at the right court. Your citation and reminder notice name the court, and the code belongs to it.

Humboldt County Superior Court handles every traffic case through its Criminal and Traffic Division, whose clerk's office is at 421 I Street in Eureka, under DMV court code 12100. The court's location page lists one courthouse, in Eureka, and none in Garberville or another town.

Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code. For any Humboldt County ticket, choose Eureka and 12100.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Your citation carries the citation number and a due date, and the court mails a reminder notice before that date. The notice also says whether you may attend traffic school. If no reminder notice comes, you still must act by the date on the bottom of your citation. The court adds that if you signed the ticket, you are responsible for taking care of it.

The court's website links its public portal for online case access. For anything the portal and your papers leave open, call the Traffic Department at (707) 445-7256, option 1, or write to it by email. If a lawyer represents you, the court asks you to contact your lawyer's office instead.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Your reminder notice says whether you are eligible, as option 5, and the court's traffic page explains how to ask. You pay the fine plus the court's nonrefundable Traffic School Administration Fee, and the school charges its own tuition when you attend. The court sets its fee, and the reminder notice and the traffic page show it.

Mail papers to the court clerk's office at 421 I Street, Eureka, CA 95501, and send them early enough to arrive before your due date. To choose a school, the traffic page sends you to the DMV.

From citation to certificate in Humboldt County

What Humboldt County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

For an infraction, the date that counts is the due date. The court says the appearance date at the bottom of the ticket applies only when you are cited for a misdemeanor or felony.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Look for option 5 on your reminder notice. The court rules out speeds more than 25 mph over the limit, equipment and non-moving violations, misdemeanors, violations with a mandatory appearance, alcohol violations, and anyone who attended traffic school in the last 18 months. With an out-of-state license, contact the court first.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

By your due date, pay the fine plus the court's Traffic School Administration Fee the way your reminder notice describes. The court does not refund the fee.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

Choose a school through the DMV, as the traffic page directs, and finish by the date the court gives you. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

After you pass, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion electronically. Keep to every date the court sets, because the court says a missed due date can bring a DMV hold that keeps you from renewing your license or attending traffic school.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Humboldt County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The court says a DMV hold may follow, which can stop you from renewing your license or attending traffic school. The citation may also go to collections with a civil assessment added, a misdemeanor may be charged, and your driving privilege may be suspended.

It is for Vehicle Code infractions only, and you post bail instead of appearing. The court wants the total bail and the traffic school fee posted in full before the process begins, and without them your case is not heard. You can get the instructions and forms online, by mail, or in person at Court Operations.

A court trial needs you in court and is open for every violation. After a not guilty plea, the court sets a speedy trial unless you give up that right. People with a good record may be released on their promise to appear, but the court may require bail, especially after earlier failures to appear or pay.

The officer who wrote the ticket testifies, and you may cross-examine, testify and call witnesses. The judge may rule at once or later by mail. A not guilty finding ends the case, and if you are found guilty, the fine may be more or less than the bail. If you miss the trial, it can go ahead without you, or a misdemeanor under Vehicle Code section 40508 may be added.

Use the state's online ability to pay tool to ask for a reduction, or file form TR-320 with form TR-321 and financial papers such as pay stubs or benefit records. If your case is not yet decided, add the court's plea form. You can also ask for a court date and bring financial papers to it.

Not for an infraction, but you may hire your own. For a misdemeanor, the court may appoint one at no initial cost and later order repayment based on your ability to pay.

Yes. File your notice of appeal by the court's deadline and follow court rules. The traffic page links the court's appeal instructions.

Contact the agency that issued it. The court does not process parking tickets.

Interpreters and language help

Humboldt County Superior Court's traffic and contact pages describe no interpreter request, so tell the Traffic Department by phone or email well before your date.
