Court code

Your DMV court code

A DMV court code is five digits long, and it tells the DMV and the court which case your completion belongs to. Your citation and courtesy notice name the court that has your case.

In Lake County that is the Clearlake Branch at 7000-A South Center Drive in Clearlake, DMV court code 17610. The court's locations page lists infraction traffic among the case types handled there and lists no traffic at the Lakeport courthouse, so 17610 is the code for an adult Lake County ticket.

Mirai Traffic School asks for your court and its code before the final exam. Pick the Clearlake Branch and 17610, whichever town on the lake you were cited in.

Pin 1 on the map, at 7000-A South Center Drive in Clearlake, the last building on the right. The Traffic Division works here, with jurisdiction over Vehicle Code infractions, some local ordinances and minor misdemeanors such as Fish and Game or Animal Control violations. From Highway 53, take Dam Road and Dam Road Extension to South Center Drive, and park next to the building. The Traffic Division answers at (707) 994-6598, and the Self-Help Center at the same address answers at (707) 994-4612.

Does not hear traffic

Lakeport Courthouse255 North Forbes Street, Lakeport, CA 95453Felony, family, civil, probate and juvenile cases, and no traffic infractions

The Lakeport courthouse is the court's main courthouse, and it hears felony, family, civil, probate and juvenile cases but no traffic infractions. The court's relocation notice names its new courthouse at 675 Lakeport Blvd. in Lakeport, which the Judicial Council describes as the replacement for the Lakeport Division Courthouse.

A minor cited with an infraction appears for a hearing at the Lake County Probation Department, not at the Clearlake Branch. Traffic school is requested at that hearing, and the hearing officer decides whether the minor may attend.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

The court mails you a courtesy notice after the citation, and the court says that notice answers most questions, including the bail amount. Your citation names the court and carries the citation number, and the notice carries the case number. Keep both papers together, since the interpreter form and a call to the clerk start with your case number.

The court's traffic page is the place to start online. It links the court's own traffic portal, where you can plead not guilty and ask for a trial, and the court's public search for case information and the current court calendar. For anything the papers do not answer, call the Traffic Division at (707) 994-6598.

The court's traffic page

How to ask for traffic school

Lake County Superior Court signs you up for traffic school when you pay the fine together with the court's administrative fee. Your courtesy notice shows the amount and the due date, and the court's traffic page lists the ways to pay, so read both before you send anything. Pay the full amount, because the court does not accept partial payments by mail.

If you cannot pay in full and still want traffic school, the court sends you to form TR-320 with its traffic school addendum. Its online fine reduction tool does not take traffic school requests. The court clerk's office also has the form.

From citation to certificate in Lake County

What Lake County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

The court mails a courtesy notice after the citation. It shows the bail and the choices you have, and it is the paper to keep beside you through every later step.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

Lake County allows traffic school if you have not attended it for a violation within 18 months of this one. It rules out alcohol and drug charges, two-point violations, and a commercial license holder driving a commercial vehicle.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Pay the fine plus the court's administrative fee by the due date on your notice. The payment is your request, and the time to finish begins once the court has it.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

The court sets the time to finish and grants no extension, so start soon. The court links the DMV's list of licensed schools, and Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

Proof of completion has to reach the court by the due date. If it arrives late or not at all, the court reports a conviction to the DMV and a point is added to your driving record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Lake County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The Clearlake Branch, for any adult traffic infraction. The court's locations page lists infraction traffic there and none at the Lakeport courthouse, and the Traffic Division office is in Clearlake. A driver under 18 goes to the Lake County Probation Department instead.

Yes. Ask the clerk for a trial in person at the Clearlake Branch, and that route needs no bail. Asking in writing or online needs a bail deposit, which comes back if you are found not guilty.

Yes, in two cases. The first is when you refuse to sign a promise to appear. The second is when the court finds, and states why, that you are unlikely to appear for trial without it.

You and the citing officer give testimony and evidence in writing, and you never go to court. You post the bail to use it, and the court returns the bail if you are found not guilty.

You may qualify for a reduced fine, so contact the Traffic Division. Neither a law enforcement officer nor the DMV can sign off proof of insurance, and it goes straight to the Traffic Division.

Have a law enforcement agency or the DMV fill out the certificate of correction on the back of the citation. A DMV representative can sign off expired registration, an expired license or no license in possession. Send the proof to the court with its correction fee by the due date on your courtesy notice.

Yes, on paper. The court's fine reduction page says to file form TR-320 with its addendum when you want traffic school and have a financial hardship, rather than the online tool. You must plead guilty or no contest before the court can answer.

Paying the bail closes the violation, and the conviction goes on your driving record if the offense is reportable.

Interpreters and language help

Tell the judge at your hearing that you need an interpreter, or ask ahead on form INT-300, which lists Traffic as a case type. Bring the form in person or mail it to the court location of your next hearing, then call before your court date to confirm. The court provides a certified interpreter where the law requires one, and a friend or relative cannot interpret in court. The court also publishes its Limited English Proficiency Plan. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
