Court code

Your DMV court code

A five-digit DMV court code carries your completion to the right court. Your citation and courtesy notice name the courthouse, and the code goes with that building.

Napa County Superior Court runs traffic from one building, the Criminal Courthouse at 1111 Third Street in Napa, and the DMV gives it one traffic code, 28100. The Juvenile Traffic Division works from the same building, so there is no second code to pick.

Mirai Traffic School asks for your court and code before the final exam. For a Napa County ticket, choose the Criminal Courthouse and 28100.

A driver under 18 learns the hearing date by mail and must come with a parent or legal guardian. The Juvenile Traffic Division sits in the Criminal Courthouse, a correctable juvenile ticket can be handled by mail, and the court gives no juvenile case information over the phone.

Your case

Find your case, then ask for traffic school

Finding your case

Local law enforcement agencies file traffic citations with the court, and a new ticket needs time to reach the court's system before a search or a call will find it. Once the court has it, the court mails a courtesy notice to the address on the citation that explains the options for your ticket.

Your own deadline is the Pay or Appear date printed on the ticket. If the notice has not come as that date nears, check the court's self-service traffic system, which the traffic page links, or call the Traffic Division at (707) 299-1160. Missing the date can bring a civil assessment under Penal Code section 1214.1 on top of the fine, and the same number explains how to ask for it to be vacated or reduced.

How to ask for traffic school

Your courtesy notice explains the options Napa County Superior Court offers for your citation, and the court's traffic school page explains how to sign up. The fine and the traffic school fee are paid up front. The court sets both, and the notice and the traffic page show the amounts.

The Traffic Division's mailing address is Napa Superior Court, Traffic Division, 1111 Third Street, Napa, CA 94559. If you are asking the court to consider your ability to pay, the court's page says a traffic school request goes to the court directly at (707) 299-1160, not through the online request tool.

From citation to certificate in Napa County

What Napa County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:

  1. 1

    You receive a citation

A local law enforcement agency files your citation with the court, and the courtesy notice follows. Keep the Pay or Appear date on your ticket in view, because you must act by it.

  2. 2

    You check the court's rules

You may attend if you have not attended traffic school in the 18 months before this violation, hold a valid California driver's license, were not more than 25 mph over the limit, and were not driving a commercial vehicle. The violations on your ticket also decide whether traffic school is open to you.

  3. 3

    You ask the court

Ask the way your courtesy notice describes and pay the fine and the traffic school fee up front. When the court receives them, it gives you the date your completion is due.

  4. 4

    You finish a licensed course

Pick a school from the DMV's list or the printable county list from the California Traffic Safety Institute, where Mirai Traffic School appears. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99, and every school charges its own course fee.

  5. 5

    The court receives your completion

Finish by the due date the court gave you. If you skip the course or fail it, the court keeps your fine and administrative fee and reports a conviction to the DMV. The court also warns that declining traffic school when you are eligible may affect your insurance.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask about Napa County Superior Court.

The statewide rules

This court, not the school, grants traffic school under Vehicle Code section 42005, and you pick any DMV-licensed school. A completed course keeps one conviction in 18 months confidential under section 1808.7. Read the full statewide rules on our California traffic school rules page.

The agency that wrote it may not have filed it yet. The court asks you to wait before you contact it, so the ticket is in its system when you call or search.

Yes, in one of two ways. Post the fine as bail and go to trial, or book an arraignment first with no bail, where the court may set a trial date. The back of your notice or a call to (707) 299-1160 tells you which options your ticket has. Either way, ask for a trial before the due date on the notice.

Often, yes. The back of your notice says whether your citation can be contested in writing, or you can call (707) 299-1160 to ask. You pay the amount due when you request the Trial by Written Declaration.

Contact the court rather than paying the full fine, and submit the proof with the reduced amount before your due date. Proof of correction cannot be given online or over the phone. An officer can sign off equipment problems, but insurance proof goes to the court, and license or registration proof needs a DMV office or the original documents. If you choose not to send proof, you may pay the total fine.

The citation number and PIN at the top right of your ticket let you view the video, as the court's traffic page explains. For a lost copy, call Napa Police at (707) 257-9992. If someone else was driving, fill out the Affidavit of Non-Liability attached to the citation, then check your case with the court before the final due date.

The clerk can decide an ability to pay request if you receive public assistance or earn 250% or less of the federal poverty guidelines, and if you have not had relief on this citation before. The clerk can reduce the amount due or allow community service, and a request the clerk cannot grant goes to a judicial officer instead of a denial. For traffic school, call the court directly.

Interpreters and language help

Napa County Superior Court provides interpreters for hearings. Fill out the INT 300 form and hand it to any window clerk, with a new form for each hearing, and ask early, because a hearing with no interpreter available may be continued. Interpreters do not fill out forms or give legal advice. Telephone interpretation in many languages is offered at the filing windows, and the court publishes a Servicios en Español page with its locations and services in Spanish. Mirai Traffic School's course runs in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.
