Every Kings County ticket goes to Hanford

What the roads, the courts and the rules mean for a citation in Kings County.

Kings County had 154,327 residents in the Census estimate for July 1, 2025. State Route 198 links Hanford and Lemoore, State Route 43 runs south through Hanford to Corcoran, State Route 41 heads south to Kettleman City, and Interstate 5 crosses the western edge near Avenal. In 2023 the California Office of Traffic Safety counted 1,000 people killed or injured in county crashes, 41st of 58 counties in a ranking where 1st is the worst. Child pedestrians stand out, with 8 under 15 killed or injured, 6th in the state. The CHP's Hanford Area patrols most of the county and its Coalinga Area a small western part, and their tickets go to the same Superior Court as those from the Kings County Sheriff's Office and city police.

The court has one courthouse, at 1640 Kings County Drive in Hanford, and it hears every traffic case in the county. There is no traffic courthouse in Lemoore, Corcoran or Avenal. Every citation issued to a driver under 18 needs a mandatory appearance at a traffic arraignment in Hanford.

To get traffic school, you must ask the court first, in person or by mail, in writing or out loud at the window. The court then adds its own non-refundable traffic school fee to the total due on top of the bail on your courtesy notice. Paying the bail alone is a conviction reported to the DMV, and the court's online ability to pay tool is not for this request.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask most about a Kings County citation.

The statewide rules

Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.

Two separate payments. The court charges the bail on your courtesy notice plus its own non-refundable Traffic School Administration Fee, and its traffic page shows the fee. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, paid to us. If paying the court is hard, you can ask it to reduce the amount based on your ability to pay before your fines and fees are paid in full.

The court sets how long you have, counted from the day you request traffic school, and its traffic page shows it. The court must receive your proof of completion within that time, and it gives no extension once you have asked. Miss the date and you lose the fees and keep the conviction. Before you ask, a clerk can move your original due date once at no cost, if you call or come in.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School. You need a valid noncommercial license, a noncommercial vehicle and no traffic school for a citation within 18 months. The ticket must be a moving violation of one point or less, with no alcohol or drugs, and not 26 mph or more over the limit or 100 mph or faster.

The CTSI list for Kings County, which carries the court's Hanford address. Mirai Traffic School is on it under DMV license E0756.

Use the court's case information search, linked from its traffic page. Choose Smart Search, enter your case number or name, open the case and look under Events and Hearings. An event named Traffic School Completion Submitted confirms the court has your certificate.

Mirai Traffic School teaches in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian. The court provides interpreters in traffic cases. Ask the clerk at the counter or in the courtroom as early as you can, or call the Interpreter Coordinator at (559) 582-1010, extension 6225.
