In Tulare County traffic court, your case number picks Visalia or Porterville

What the roads, the courts and the rules mean for a citation in Tulare County.

Tulare County runs from the State Route 99 farm belt up into the Sierra Nevada, with 485,146 residents on July 1, 2025, by Census estimate, and 8 incorporated cities. State Route 198 crosses Visalia toward Three Rivers, and State Route 65 links Porterville, Lindsay and Exeter.

The California Office of Traffic Safety counted 3,012 people killed or injured in Tulare County crashes in 2023, 17th of 58 counties, where 1st is the worst. Crashes with a driver under 21 who had been drinking killed or injured 58 people, 5th in the state.

The court hears traffic in two buildings, and the letters that open your case number decide which. VTR and VJT cases go to the Visalia Division at the County Civic Center, 221 South Mooney Boulevard, and PTR and PJT cases go to the South County Justice Center, 300 East Olive Avenue, Porterville. The court's handout still prints a Tulare Division, code 54485, with no address, so if your paperwork names it, call Visalia at (559) 730-5000. The California Highway Patrol's Visalia and Porterville Areas both serve the county, and a CHP ticket lands in the same Superior Court as one from a city police officer.

When you pass the final exam, we report your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court says the school submits proof to it. Juvenile traffic goes to the same two buildings. The court also flags scam texts about traffic school fines, and says a driver who completed, paid and got a certificate owes nothing more.

What drivers ask most about a Tulare County citation.

The statewide rules

Every ticket written in this county goes to its superior court, which decides whether to allow traffic school. Once in any 18 months, a completed licensed course makes the conviction confidential and adds no point. The statewide rules and their sources are on our California traffic school rules page.

Before the due date on your Reminder Notice, ask the court for traffic school and pay its fee together with the bail. If you sign up by phone or by mail, the court mails you a list of schools.

Two separate payments. The court charges its own traffic school fee plus the bail on your Reminder Notice, and its traffic page shows the current fee. Mirai Traffic School's course is $24.99, paid to us. If paying would leave your household short of basic needs, ask the court to consider your ability to pay.

The court sets the date to finish, and its handout says that date will not move. Before you sign up, the clerk may give you more time to post bail. Miss the date and the court keeps your fees and reports a conviction to the DMV.

The court decides, not Mirai Traffic School. You need a valid noncommercial license, a noncommercial vehicle and no traffic school for a citation issued in the 18 months before this one. Tickets over one point, alcohol or drug violations and speeds over 100 mph or 26 mph or more over the limit are excluded. Settle any failure to appear charge first.

For online courses, the court points to the California Traffic Safety Institute list. Its Tulare County list shows Mirai Traffic School, E0756, as an internet course, under its Japanese and Russian headings too.

Mirai Traffic School teaches the course and final exam in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian. In court, Tulare County Superior Court says interpreters for traffic cases come at no cost.

Yes, with the court's Reserve a Traffic Court Date form. The court confirms by email or phone whether it scheduled your date.
