Court code
Your DMV court code
A DMV court code tells the DMV and your traffic school which court holds your case, so your completion reaches the right file. Butte County has one code, 04100, and it belongs to the North Butte County Courthouse at 1775 Concord Avenue in Chico, where the court's Traffic Division works.
Juvenile traffic is heard at the Butte County Courthouse in Oroville, which has no separate code on the DMV list. Before the final exam, Mirai Traffic School asks you to confirm your court and its code, and for an adult Butte County ticket that is code 04100 wherever in the county you were cited.

Your case
Find your case, then ask for traffic school
Finding your case
Your citation and courtesy notice carry what you need. The front of the citation shows the citation number, the agency that wrote it, the violations and where they happened, the officer, and the place and date you promised to appear. The courtesy notice, mailed to the address on the citation, adds your case or docket number, the bail, your traffic school eligibility and any proof of correction the court needs.
The court's traffic page links its Case Information page, which opens a Case Search of non-confidential cases, traffic included, with no account needed. Butte case numbers since 2016 start with a two-digit year and a case type, TR for traffic or CI for a criminal infraction. If no notice has come, call the Traffic Division at (530) 532-7005. You do not have to wait for your appearance date to contact the court.
How to ask for traffic school
Your courtesy notice tells you whether Butte County Superior Court finds you eligible and how to ask, and the court's traffic school page explains the rest. You ask by paying the court a non-refundable traffic school fee along with the bail, and the notice and that page show both amounts. Paying the bail alone is not a request for traffic school. The court calls that a bail forfeiture and reports the conviction on your driving record.
Ask before the appearance date on your citation.

From citation to certificate in Butte County
What Butte County Superior Court does with your ticket, step by step:
- 1
You receive a citation
Read the front and back of the citation, and the courtesy notice when it reaches the address on the citation. A missing notice does not excuse the ticket, so contact the court by the appearance date either way.
- 2
You check the court's rules
Butte asks for a valid driver's license and a Vehicle Code infraction. The clerk cannot grant traffic school if you attended within 18 months of the violation date, the violation involves alcohol or drug possession, it carries more than one point, or you failed to appear. A driver cited in a commercial vehicle may not attend.
- 3
You ask the court
Before the appearance date, ask the way your courtesy notice describes and pay the fee and bail the court sets. The notice and the traffic school page show the amounts.
- 4
You finish a licensed course
The court gives you a traffic school due date. Mirai Traffic School is licensed by the DMV as E0756 and costs $24.99, and each school charges for its own course.
- 5
The court receives your completion
The school sends the completion certificate to the court. Finish by the due date and the court reports a confidential conviction to the DMV. Miss it and the court keeps the fee as forfeited bail and reports the conviction.
