The Census Bureau estimates 21,116 residents in Dixon on July 1, 2025. The Solano County Active Transportation Plan describes a small agricultural town with mostly residential land use. Interstate 80 marks its northwest edge, and State Route 113 runs through the center of town as South 1st Street, then connects with State Route 12 toward Rio Vista and Fairfield. A railroad line cuts diagonally through Dixon along the northwest side of downtown.
Tickets in Dixon come from two agencies. The Dixon Police Department patrols city streets such as West A Street, and the California Highway Patrol's Solano Area serves residents and travelers across Solano County, including on Interstate 80 and State Route 113. Whichever agency stops you, the ticket goes to Solano County Superior Court, and one set of traffic school rules covers both.
The California Office of Traffic Safety's 2023 rankings count 42 people killed or injured in Dixon crashes, 53rd of 103 cities of similar size, where 1st is the worst result. Alcohol ranks worse than the total. Crashes involving alcohol killed or injured 10 people, 25th in the group, and hit-and-run crashes with a death or injury numbered 4, 35th. Speed-related fatal or injury collisions numbered 4, 70th, and 2 bicyclists were killed or injured, 54th. The figures describe the city's roads as a whole, not fault in any one driver's case.
The county plan counted 472 traffic collisions in Dixon from 2012 to 2017, with 15 involving a pedestrian and nine a bicyclist. It named South 1st Street from West Cherry Street to Vaughn Road as a pedestrian collision hotspot and found no bicycle hotspot in the city. The most severe pedestrian crashes happened after dark on streets with lights. The plan also lists new pedestrian crossings on State Route 113 at East A Street, West E Street, West F Street, C Street and East Walnut Street, projects drawn from the 2018 Solano Travel Safety Plan.
Dixon's Public Works Department runs and maintains the city's streets, sidewalks and streetlights. The city's engineering staff take reports of traffic problems through the Civic 311 website, and a Transportation Advisory Commission, appointed by the Mayor, advises the City Council on policies that affect the city's transportation system.
Solano County Superior Court hears adult traffic cases at two courthouses, one in Fairfield and one in Vallejo. The one nearer Dixon is the Hall of Justice at 600 Union Avenue in Fairfield, which holds traffic arraignments and trials under DMV court code 48430, and its traffic clerk answers at (707) 207-7360. The court location assigned to your case is printed on the citation, and the courtesy notice comes by mail.
Traffic school is something you request from the court before your court due date, and you pay the fine and the court's traffic school fee together when you do. The court sets both amounts and the dates, your courtesy notice shows them, and a late request is refused. Mirai Traffic School's course costs a separate $24.99. To qualify in Solano County you need a valid driver's license, no traffic school in the past 18 months, no outstanding failure to appear or failure to pay, a moving infraction without any drug or alcohol violation, and a speed no more than 25 mph over the posted limit. Completing the course keeps a point off your driving record, and the court makes the final decision.
Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there. The court then sends the violation to the DMV as a confidential conviction. Before the date on your courtesy notice, find your case through Case Search on the court's traffic page and make sure your name, license number and court code 48430 match the record, so there is still time to fix an error.
