Woodland roads, crash data and traffic court
What the local roads, speed limits and court mean for your citation in Woodland.
The Census Bureau estimates 62,513 residents in Woodland on July 1, 2025. Interstate 5 and State Route 113 cross the city, and the city's road safety plan counts State Route 16 as a third state highway, joining Main Street on the west side. Between Davis and Woodland, State Route 113 is a four-lane freeway that links Interstate 80 with Interstate 5. State Route 16 once ran through town as Main Street, and the plan says its traffic still adds to Main Street today.
Tickets in Woodland come from two agencies. The Woodland Police Department patrols city streets such as Main Street, East Street and Gibson Road. The California Highway Patrol's Woodland Area covers the highways and unincorporated roads of Yolo County, including Interstate 5 and State Route 113. Whichever agency stops you, the ticket goes to Yolo County Superior Court, and the court uses the same traffic school rules for both.
The California Office of Traffic Safety's 2023 rankings count 126 people killed or injured in Woodland crashes, 85th of 103 cities of similar size, where 1st is the worst result. Bicyclists stand out, with 19 killed or injured, 23rd in the group. Pedestrians numbered 11, 64th, and speed-related crashes that killed or hurt someone numbered 15, 89th. The rankings describe the city's roads overall, not what happened in any one driver's case.
Woodland's 2022 Local Road Safety Plan studied collisions in the city from 2009 through 2020, using the city's Crossroads database, data from the Woodland police and comments residents gave through web map surveys and workshops at City Hall. It picked out ten high-risk corridors and named five as the top priority, East Street and West Street between Kentucky Avenue and Gibson Road, and Main Street between West Street and East Street. The plan also counts about 29 railroad crossings at street level, 15 of them next to East Street and North East Street.
Adult traffic tickets from Woodland go to Yolo County Superior Court, and the courthouse is in Woodland itself, at 1000 Main Street. The court says the building went up in 2015 with 14 courtrooms, replacing a courthouse that had been spread across seven separate facilities, and it is the one courthouse the court lists for the county. The Traffic Division there handles every ticket under DMV court code 57420 and answers at (530) 406-6702. The officer writes the court location at the top of your citation.
Ask the court before you take a course. Yolo County Superior Court requires its permission and a state-mandated administration fee first, and it rejects a completion from a driver who skipped that step. You can ask at the clerk's office at 1000 Main Street, by mail, or from the judicial officer at your arraignment. The court sets the fee on top of the bail shown on your courtesy notice, and Mirai Traffic School's course is a separate $24.99. The court asks for no traffic school in the past 18 months, a citation that is not alcohol related, a valid license with no outstanding failure to appear or failure to pay, a speed under 26 mph over the limit, no commercial vehicle and a moving violation. Seatbelt, registration and insurance tickets do not count as moving violations.
After you pass the final exam, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there. Before the date the court set, check your case and confirm that your name, license number and court code 57420 match, so a mismatch can still be fixed in time.
