West Sacramento Traffic School

The Census Bureau estimates 56,216 residents in West Sacramento on July 1, 2025. Interstate 80, US Route 50 and State Route 275 all pass through the city, and Jefferson Boulevard is one of the city streets marked on the map above.

Tickets in West Sacramento come from two agencies. The West Sacramento Police Department patrols city streets such as Jefferson Boulevard, and it has held national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement since 2017. The California Highway Patrol's Woodland Area patrols the highways and unincorporated roads of Yolo County, including Interstate 80 and US Route 50. Both agencies send their tickets to Yolo County Superior Court, and the court applies one set of traffic school rules to all of them.

The California Office of Traffic Safety's 2023 rankings count 218 people killed or injured in West Sacramento crashes, 38th of 103 cities of similar size, where 1st is the worst result. Alcohol was involved for 31 of those victims, 22nd in the group. Pedestrians numbered 19, 31st, and speed-related crashes that killed or hurt someone numbered 24, 57th. These counts cover the whole city and say nothing about fault in a single case.

The city started its Vision Zero work in January 2024 as part of the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All program, and the City Council adopted the Vision Zero Action Plan on September 17, 2025. To build its map of high-injury locations, the city's team analyzed crash reports filed with the West Sacramento Police Department and reported to the Highway Patrol, and added places where residents saw near misses. The map shows that 70 percent of fatal and severe-injury crashes happen on 3.5 percent of West Sacramento's streets, and the city will use it to decide which safety improvements come first.

Adult traffic tickets from West Sacramento go to Yolo County Superior Court, which lists one courthouse for the whole county at 1000 Main Street in Woodland. Its Traffic Division takes every ticket under DMV court code 57420 and answers at (530) 406-6702. A CHP ticket on Interstate 80 and a city police ticket on Jefferson Boulevard reach the same counter, and the officer writes the court location at the top of your citation.

You need the court's permission before you take traffic school. The court charges an administration fee on top of the bail shown on your courtesy notice, and its traffic page gives the current amount. Mirai Traffic School's course is a separate $24.99. Yolo County asks for no traffic school in the past 18 months, a citation that is not alcohol related, a valid license with no outstanding failure to appear or failure to pay, a speed under 26 mph over the limit, no commercial vehicle and a moving violation. Seatbelt, registration and insurance tickets are not moving violations. The court rejects a completion from a driver who started a course without its permission and the fee paid.

After you pass the final exam, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there.
