What the local roads, speed limits and court mean for your citation in Dublin.

The Census Bureau estimates 71,602 residents in Dublin on July 1, 2025. The city sits in the Amador Valley on the north side of Interstate 580, where it meets Interstate 680, and covers about 15.2 square miles with no water inside its limits. Dublin Boulevard runs east and west just north of Interstate 580 and was once part of the Lincoln Highway and later U.S. Route 50. BART serves the city with two stations.

Dublin contracts its policing to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, which patrols city streets such as Dublin Boulevard and Village Parkway as Dublin Police Services. The California Highway Patrol's Dublin Area, which serves Alameda and Contra Costa counties, covers the state highways, including Interstate 580 and Interstate 680. Tickets from either agency go to Alameda County Superior Court under the same traffic school rules.

The California Office of Traffic Safety's 2023 rankings count 140 people killed or injured in Dublin crashes, 87th of 103 cities of similar size, where 1st is the worst result. That puts Dublin near the safer end of its group, and speed-related crashes that killed or hurt someone, 26 of them, ranked 69th. Bicyclists under 15 are the exception, with 6 killed or injured and a rank of 12th.

In January 2023 the City Council adopted a Local Roadway Safety Plan aimed at fatal and severe injury crashes. Its priority list starts with Dublin Boulevard at Arnold Road and Dublin Boulevard at Village Parkway and ends at Dublin Boulevard and Sierra Court. The plan links aggressive driving, which includes speeding, tailgating and running signals, to more than 15 percent of the city's fatal and severe injury crashes, and impaired driving to more than 25 percent.

Dublin has a traffic courthouse of its own. Alameda County Superior Court's East County Hall of Justice at 5151 Gleason Drive opened in 2017 with 13 courtrooms, and officials then expected about 54,000 traffic cases a year there. It hears traffic and criminal cases, it has a Traffic Division window, and its clerk's office answers at (925) 227-6700. The building has no DMV court code of its own, so ask the clerk which code your case carries.

Traffic school is a request to Alameda County Superior Court. The court asks for the bail and a state-mandated traffic school administrative fee before you sign up with a school, and your courtesy notice shows both amounts and the date to finish. Mirai Traffic School's course is a separate $24.99. You need a valid license on the day of the ticket, no traffic school in the 18 months before, counted from violation date to violation date, and a moving violation in a noncommercial vehicle that is not a misdemeanor and involves no alcohol, drugs or required court appearance. Speeds of 25 mph or more over the limit and carpool-lane tickets under Vehicle Code 21655.5 are out.

After you pass the final exam, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there, so the course never takes you to Gleason Drive. Before the date on your notice, check your case with the court and make sure your name and license number match its record.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask most about handling a Dublin citation.

The statewide rules

The court for this city decides whether you may take traffic school, and you choose the school. Finishing it keeps one ticket in any 18 months confidential, with no point added. Our California traffic school rules page explains each rule with the law behind it.

Alameda County Superior Court, which has a traffic courthouse in Dublin itself, the East County Hall of Justice at 5151 Gleason Drive, phone (925) 227-6700. The court also hears traffic in Fremont and Oakland, and your citation and courtesy notice name the courthouse for your case.

No. Traffic school covers moving violations, and the California courts' self-help guide lists equipment problems, like a broken taillight, among tickets that do not qualify. For a fix-it ticket you make the repair and get the proof of correction signed. Dublin Police Services signs corrections at its business office at 6361 Clark Avenue, and you must bring the vehicle and citation with the repairs done.

$24.99 for the online course and final exam. The bail and the court's traffic school fee go to Alameda County Superior Court before you enroll anywhere, and your courtesy notice shows the amounts. Mirai Traffic School is on the California Traffic Safety Institute list that the court points drivers to, as E0756.

The Office of Traffic Safety counts 140 people killed or injured in Dublin in 2023, 87th of 103 similar cities. Bicyclists numbered 17, 39th, and speed-related fatal or injury collisions 26, 69th. Bicyclists under 15, with 6 killed or injured and a rank of 12th, stand out against the city's otherwise low ranks.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office, working under contract as Dublin Police Services, on city streets, and the California Highway Patrol's Dublin Area on Interstate 580 and Interstate 680. Both send tickets to Alameda County Superior Court, so the traffic school rules do not change with the agency that stopped you.

No. Mirai Traffic School reports your completion electronically through the DMV's Traffic Violator Course Completion system under license E0756, and the court retrieves it there. If proof of completion misses the due date, the court forfeits the bail, reports a conviction to the DMV and a point goes on your driving record, so check your Dublin case before the date on your notice.
