What the local roads, speed limits and court mean for your citation in Livermore.
The Census Bureau estimates 83,457 residents in Livermore on July 1, 2025, on 26.57 square miles of land. Interstate 580 runs along the northern edge of the city, then heads east through the Altamont Pass toward the Central Valley. Caltrans counted about 170,000 vehicles a day on it at Greenville Road in 2023, and its eastbound express lanes run 12 miles from Hacienda Drive to North Greenville Road. State Route 84 follows Isabel Avenue from the freeway toward Fremont, and Vasco Road connects Livermore with Brentwood.
Tickets in Livermore come from two agencies. The Livermore Police Department patrols city streets, and the California Highway Patrol's Redwood City, Hayward, Oakland and Dublin Areas serve Alameda County. Whichever one writes the ticket, it goes to Alameda County Superior Court, and the court's traffic school rules stay the same.
The California Office of Traffic Safety's 2023 rankings count 280 people killed or injured in Livermore crashes, 66th of 103 cities of similar size, where 1st is the worst result. Speed-related crashes that killed or hurt someone numbered 48, ranking 46th, and crashes involving alcohol killed or injured 35 people, 51st. Pedestrians, with 20 killed or injured, ranked 57th, and bicyclists, with 16, ranked 69th.
Livermore's City Council adopted a Vision Zero Action Plan on May 11, 2026. The plan counts 11 people killed and 46 severe injury crashes on city streets from 2020 to 2024, and 75 percent of those crashes happened at or near an intersection.
On September 16, 2026, the High Impact Traffic Team ran a coordinated enforcement operation throughout Livermore with 33 officers from 13 agencies. They wrote 378 citations, including 138 for speeding, 80 for stop sign violations, 65 for cell phone violations and 95 for other violations.
Livermore has no courthouse. Alameda County Superior Court hears traffic at three locations, and the one closest to Livermore is the East County Hall of Justice at 5151 Gleason Drive in Dublin, where the clerk's office answers at (925) 227-6700. That building hears traffic and criminal cases but has no code of its own on the DMV's court code list, so ask the clerk which code your case carries. The other two traffic courthouses are in Fremont and Oakland, and your citation and courtesy notice name the one that has your case.
Alameda County Superior Court wants the bail and a state-mandated traffic school administrative fee paid before you sign up with any school. The court sets both amounts, and the due date to finish is on your courtesy notice. Mirai Traffic School's $24.99 course is paid separately. You need a license that was valid when you were cited and no traffic school in the 18 months before this violation, counted from one violation date to the other. The ticket must be for a moving violation that is not a misdemeanor, with no alcohol, drugs, commercial vehicle or mandatory court appearance, and tickets for 25 mph or more over the limit or for the carpool lane under Vehicle Code 21655.5 are excluded.
After you pass the final exam, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there. The court sends drivers to the California Traffic Safety Institute list, which carries Mirai Traffic School as E0756. If proof of completion is missing on the due date, the court forfeits the bail, reports a conviction to the DMV and adds a point to your driving record, so check your Livermore case before that date.
