What the local roads, speed limits and court mean for your citation in Pleasanton.
The Census Bureau estimates 74,556 residents in Pleasanton on July 1, 2025, on 24.1 square miles of land in the Amador Valley. The city sits where Interstate 580 crosses Interstate 680, and State Route 84 also runs through it. Caltrans counted up to 244,000 vehicles a day on I-580 at Hacienda Drive in 2023. BART's Blue Line runs along the northern city limit with two stations, and the Altamont Corridor Express stops at Pleasanton Station near downtown.
Tickets in Pleasanton come from two agencies. The Pleasanton Police Department patrols city streets such as Santa Rita Road and Hopyard Road. On the state highways, the ticket usually comes from the California Highway Patrol, whose Dublin, Hayward, Oakland and Redwood City Areas serve Alameda County. Both kinds of ticket go to Alameda County Superior Court, and the agency does not change the court's traffic school rules.
Pleasanton police stepped up traffic enforcement in 2025. The department's annual report counts 6,510 traffic stops and 2,174 moving and mechanical citations that year, against 624 citations in 2024.
The California Office of Traffic Safety counts 266 people killed or injured in Pleasanton crashes in 2023, 60th of 103 California cities with 50,001 to 100,000 residents, where 1st is the worst. Cyclists fare worse in the rankings. The city had 28 of them killed or injured, 20th of 103.
In May 2026 the city adopted the Pleasanton Transportation Safety Action Plan, paid for by the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All program. From 2020 to 2024, city streets saw 809 injury collisions, and 67 of them killed or severely injured someone, 7 fatal and 60 severe. Unsafe speed figured in 197 of the 809. Santa Rita Road between I-580 and Del Valle Parkway had 89 injury collisions, the most on the plan's High Injury Network, and Hopyard Road over the same stretch had 8 fatal or severe crashes, also the most. Those figures leave out I-580 and I-680, which Caltrans maintains.
Pleasanton has no courthouse. Its traffic tickets go to Alameda County Superior Court, and the nearest of the court's three traffic locations is the East County Hall of Justice at 5151 Gleason Drive in Dublin, where the clerk's office answers at (925) 227-6700. The DMV's court code list gives this courthouse no code of its own, so ask its clerk which code your case carries. The other two traffic locations are the Fremont Hall of Justice and the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland, and your courtesy notice names the one that has your case.
You ask the court for traffic school, and Alameda County Superior Court wants the bail and a state-mandated traffic school administrative fee paid before you sign up with any school. The court sets both amounts, and your courtesy notice shows the bail and the date to finish. Mirai Traffic School's $24.99 is a separate charge. To qualify, you need a license that was valid when you were cited and no traffic school for another violation in the 18 months before this one, counted violation date to violation date. The ticket must be a moving violation, not a misdemeanor, with no alcohol, drugs, commercial vehicle or mandatory court appearance. Tickets for 25 mph or more over the limit and carpool-lane tickets under Vehicle Code 21655.5 are left out. The court decides.
When you pass the final exam, Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there. Before the date on your notice, look up your case and confirm that your name, license number and court code are right.
