Mountain House roads, school crossings and traffic court

What the local roads, speed limits and court mean for your citation in Mountain House.

The Census Bureau estimates 25,315 residents in Mountain House on July 1, 2025. The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors approved the planned community in 1994, and it became a city on July 1, 2024, after more than 90 percent of voting residents backed incorporation. It lies on the western edge of San Joaquin County, next to Alameda County.

Interstate 205 runs just south of the city and connects to it at the Mountain House Parkway interchange, exit 2. Across the freeway, Mountain House Parkway becomes International Parkway in Tracy and leads to the southeastern end of Interstate 580.

Tickets in Mountain House come from two agencies. The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office provides the city's police services, traffic enforcement included, and the California Highway Patrol's Stockton Area and Tracy Area serve San Joaquin County, with Interstate 205 among the Tracy Area's freeways. Both agencies send their tickets to San Joaquin County Superior Court. A stop on the Alameda County side of the line is another court's case, so go by the court printed on your ticket.

Mountain House was not yet a city in 2023, so the Office of Traffic Safety's city rankings for that year leave it out, and the county table is the one that covers it. San Joaquin County had 6,095 people killed or injured in 2023, 15th of 58 counties, where 1st is the worst result. It ranked 12th for speed-related crashes that killed or hurt someone, and its 628 fatal or injury hit-and-run crashes put it 1st.

The city calls traffic safety one of its highest priorities. Engineering standards require lower-level measures before flashing beacons or signals, so many school-area crossings already have stop or yield control, speed humps, 15 mph school-zone advisory signs and high-visibility crosswalks. A traffic engineer evaluates each location, weighing visibility, speed, collision history and school-zone activity.

A Central Parkway project upgrades the pedestrian crossings at Legacy Drive and Heritage Drive with rectangular rapid flashing beacons, median refuge areas and traffic calming to bring speeds down. Muela Ranch and Tradition Street, Wicklund Village and the part of Central Parkway near Mountain House High School are also getting targeted traffic calming.

Adult traffic tickets from Mountain House go to San Joaquin County Superior Court, which takes traffic cases in Stockton, Manteca and Lodi, and your citation names the courthouse. The court's Traffic Division is at the Stockton Courthouse, on the second floor at 180 E. Weber Avenue, and its line is (209) 992-5692. That building holds the county's one adult traffic code on the DMV list, 39460. The Manteca and Lodi courthouses have no code of their own, so if your notice names one of them, ask that courthouse which code to give.

You request traffic school from the court, not from the school. San Joaquin County Superior Court adds an administrative fee to the bail on your courtesy notice, and the notice lists what you owe and when the course must be done. Mirai Traffic School charges $24.99 on its own. To qualify you need a valid California license and no traffic school assigned or attended in the last 18 months, and the charge must be an infraction with no mandatory appearance. For speeding, the court's limits are 25 mph over the posted limit and 100 mph, and certain serious violations are not eligible.

Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there. The court keeps the fines and fees you posted when traffic school is not completed, so before the date on your notice, check that the court has your Mountain House case and that the name and license number on it are yours.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask most about handling a Mountain House citation.

The statewide rules

The court for this city decides whether you may take traffic school, and you choose the school. Finishing it keeps one ticket in any 18 months confidential, with no point added. Our California traffic school rules page explains each rule with the law behind it.

San Joaquin County Superior Court, as long as the stop was on the San Joaquin side of the county line. The court hears traffic in Stockton, Manteca and Lodi, and the courthouse on your citation is the one that has your case. The Traffic Division in Stockton answers at (209) 992-5692.

The online course is $24.99, and the final exam is part of it. Your bail and the court's administrative fee go to San Joaquin County Superior Court as separate payments, in the amounts your courtesy notice shows. Paying for the course does not pay the court, and a receipt from Mirai Traffic School is not proof that the court granted traffic school.

Mountain House became a city on July 1, 2024, after the 2023 rankings year. The Office of Traffic Safety's county table for 2023 does cover it. San Joaquin County ranked 15th of 58 for people killed or injured, 12th for speed-related crashes and 1st, the worst, for hit-and-run crashes.

San Joaquin County Superior Court sets the date, and it appears on your courtesy notice. The notice goes to the address on your citation, and if none reaches you, the court expects you to follow up and get the amount and due date yourself.

Electronically. Mirai Traffic School enters your completion in the DMV's Traffic Violator Course Completion system under license E0756, and the court retrieves it there. Keep the confirmation with your citation number until your Mountain House case shows the course as complete.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, which provides the city's police services, and the California Highway Patrol's Stockton Area and Tracy Area on the state highways, Interstate 205 included. Their tickets all go to San Joaquin County Superior Court, and which agency stopped you makes no difference to the traffic school rules.
