Roseville roads, crash data and traffic court

What the local roads, speed limits and court mean for your citation in Roseville.

The Census Bureau estimates 167,302 residents in Roseville on July 1, 2025. Interstate 80 and State Route 65 both cross the city. Route 65 leaves Interstate 80 and heads north, and the California Highway Patrol names Roseville first among the growing cities the route reaches, ahead of Rocklin and Lincoln.

Tickets in Roseville come from two agencies. The Roseville Police Department patrols city streets. The California Highway Patrol's Auburn Area handles traffic management and collision investigation in unincorporated Placer County, and it lists Interstate 80 and State Route 65 among its key corridors. Whichever agency writes a ticket, it ends up with Placer County Superior Court under the same traffic school rules.

The California Office of Traffic Safety's 2023 rankings count 787 people killed or injured in Roseville crashes, 27th of 62 cities of similar size, where 1st is the worst result. Speed-related crashes that killed or hurt someone numbered 130, 16th in the group, and 96 victims were in alcohol-involved crashes, 22nd. Motorcyclists accounted for 47, 19th. Pedestrians ranked near the safer end, with 23 killed or injured, 60th. The figures describe the city's roads as a whole, not fault in any one driver's case.

Roseville runs its traffic signals through an Intelligent Transportation System. The city lists 171 intelligent traffic signals, 175 traffic monitoring cameras, 60 miles of fiber optic and 27 miles of high-speed copper lines, all managed from a Traffic Operations Center. Engineers can pull up the camera closest to an intersection to respond faster to safety problems, and they coordinate signals along busy corridors so more vehicles get through with fewer stops. On the freeway, Caltrans finished the I-80 Auxiliary Lanes Project in June 2025. It added eastbound and westbound auxiliary lanes and a two-lane off-ramp at Rocklin Road to cut stop-and-go traffic between Douglas Boulevard and Riverside Avenue and between State Route 65 and Rocklin Road.

Roseville is home to the county's main courthouse. Placer County Superior Court hears traffic at the Hon. Howard G. Gibson Courthouse, 10820 Justice Center Drive, under DMV court code 31455, and drivers who come to court check in at the Clerk's Office there. The clerk's number is (916) 408-6000. The CHP still lists the building as the Santucci Justice Center, an older name you may also see on other sites. The court hears traffic in Tahoe City too, so the courthouse on your citation and bail notice is the one that counts.

Placer treats traffic school as a request that follows payment. You pay the fine plus the court's administrative fee, and the court sets that fee and your completion due date. A bail notice shows both when it arrives, but the court says the notice is a courtesy you may not get, so confirm your case with the court. Mirai Traffic School's course is a separate $24.99. The court's page makes you eligible if you have not completed traffic school within 18 months of the current citation, were not going more than 25 mph over the safe speed and were not in a commercial vehicle. An alcohol or drug charge or a two-point violation makes you ineligible. The court decides.

Mirai Traffic School reports your completion to the DMV electronically, and the court retrieves it from there. The certificate has to reach the court by your completion due date, and the court's traffic school page has a status check for it. Make sure your name, license number and court code 31455 match before then, so there is time to correct an error. The court says a driver who pleads guilty and completes traffic school by the deadline gets no point on the license record.

Frequently asked questions

What drivers ask most about handling a Roseville citation.

The statewide rules

The court for this city decides whether you may take traffic school, and you choose the school. Finishing it keeps one ticket in any 18 months confidential, with no point added. Our California traffic school rules page explains each rule with the law behind it.

Placer County Superior Court, in Roseville itself, at the Hon. Howard G. Gibson Courthouse, 10820 Justice Center Drive, code 31455. Older listings may call it the Santucci Justice Center. The courthouse printed on your citation decides, and the clerk at (916) 408-6000 can help if it is unclear.

$24.99, and the final exam is part of it. Placer County Superior Court charges the fine and an administrative fee of its own as separate payments, and it sets both. Pay the court first, then sign up. The course receipt does not show that the court was paid or that it granted traffic school.

OTS counts 787 people killed or injured in 2023, 27th of 62 similar cities. Speed-related fatal or injury collisions numbered 130, 16th, victims in alcohol-involved crashes 96, 22nd, and bicyclists 35, 34th. These figures describe Roseville as a whole, not fault or eligibility in any single case.

On the completion due date Placer County Superior Court gives your case. Look for it on a bail notice, which the court treats as the official date, but do not count on getting one. Check your case or call the clerk. If you miss your pay or appear date, the court bars traffic school until you pay all fees or a judge authorizes it.

Mirai Traffic School reports it electronically through the DMV's Traffic Violator Course Completion system under license E0756, and the court retrieves it there. The court's certificate status check shows when it has arrived. Keep Mirai Traffic School's confirmation with your Roseville citation number.

The Roseville Police Department on city streets, and the California Highway Patrol's Auburn Area on Interstate 80, State Route 65 and unincorporated county roads. Both agencies send tickets to Placer County Superior Court, so the traffic school rules are the same whoever stopped you.
